Jeff Hughes shared thisImagine my surprise when this showed up in my LinkedIn feed! As so many of you also know, it is such a joy when your children begin to discover their passions. And healthcare - in many potential forms - seems to be Ella Hughes’s. I’m so happy to support her in this journey. (As long as I don’t have to dance. That’d just be bad all around.)Jeff Hughes shared thisHello everyone! I am participating in the Indiana University Dance Marathon as a member of the FYDE (First Year Dance Experience). As part of the FYDE, I have the opportunity to learn about IUDM's mission to raise funds for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, which supports clinical programming and pediatric research. During One Month One Mission, we come together as an organization to raise as much as possible during the month of October. This month symbolizes the tremendous amount of hope we can raise for those families treated at the Riley Hospital for Children, along with the staff. To make my own impact, I have set my personal goal for the month at $750. I would love to give you all an opportunity to make an impact with me, here at Indiana. If you are able, please check out my fundraising page. All donations are greatly appreciated! https://lnkd.in/evStvG8R

Jeff Hughes reacted on thisJeff Hughes reacted on thisOn Friday I went back to “school.” The Gynecologic Oncology team at Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University Northwestern Medicine puts on an annual Survive & Thrive program for their patients and caregivers (this was my first)... which meant spending a day with very smart people translating ovarian + other gynecologic cancers' research, treatment, and survivorship into regular people's language! 🙏 for the investment of time and energy and the intention to open up the aperture of what we, your patients and caregivers, are exposed to. A few things I learned: ⭐ Six months matters for my type of cancer: The good news about my type of ovarian cancer is that it is the most common type, which means it is well studied, there is a lot of data, and it often responds well to platinum chemo. The bad news is that recurrence is very common. If it returns 6+ months after the last chemo, it is considered “platinum sensitive,” meaning there is a better chance platinum chemo can work again. October 3 is my six-month mark. 🤞 🌟 After a very long drought, the treatment options are expanding. Innovation at work! For decades, the answer has been chemo, full stop. Beginning in the mid-2010s, the options started to look very different: targeted therapies. PARP inhibitors. Antibody-drug conjugates. New biomarkers. New ways to match treatment to the biology of an individual cancer. Niraparib, the drug I take every day to help keep me in remission, is part of that story. The energy in the room from the doctors was: We’ve turned a corner. More is coming. 👏 💫 Is medical research entrepreneurship? (Before you @ me, I know... no business model per se for medical research) Behind every “new” breakthrough are years, sometimes decades, of basic science, clinical research, trials, failures, iteration, and people who just kept going. NO overnight successes. People dedicate their lives for years before the rest of us see the breakthrough. And in ovarian cancer, it feels like we’re finally starting to see a lot more of them. 📣 And a PSA re supplements that made me 😳: One study of sports supplements containing certain botanical ingredients found that 40% had no detectable amount of the labeled ingredient, 12% contained an FDA-prohibited ingredient, and 89% were inaccurately labeled. ✅ Check your supplements. ⚡ Be careful! #️⃣ 18.6 million Americans are living with a history of cancer. That’s about 1 in 18 of us. That number is projected to reach more than 26 million by 2040. 2.1 million Americans are expected to be diagnosed in 2026. More than 1 million cancer survivors have a history of a gynecologic malignancy. So apparently, I’m one in a million. 😉 Now you’ve been to school too. 💜 PS: How lucky are we who live in Chicago to have extraordinary healthcare across so many different institutions? It's a blessing we don't celebrate enough. 🙌 🎆

Jeff Hughes liked thisJeff Hughes liked thisLast Friday my career journey at Brighthouse Financial and MetLife came to an end. The last 24.5 years of this adventure from coast to coast (Newport Beach, CA to Charlotte, NC) have been filled with an abundance of growth, impact, challenges, shared successes and an amazing community of people to experience and create everlasting memories with along the way. I did not want this moment to pass without expressing how incredibly thankful I am for this time in my life and for all the opportunity along the way. I will be forever grateful for how this has helped my family! Quick shoutout to a few leaders past and present for all their time and effort investing in my growth over the years; Deron Richens, Nate Mills, Jerry Nigro, and Kevin MacIlvane. It was an honor to be a leader on your teams, thank you for your coaching, support, encouragement, demonstrated leadership, and challenging me to be the best version of myself possible over the years. To be involved and able to help make an impact for people along their financial journeys was energizing. I always felt closely connected to the goal of achieving financial security as I was constantly thinking about protecting and planning for my family, as a father, husband, and son. It felt good to be able to help other families, grandparents, parents, and siblings like mine protect what they had worked so hard to earn. Last to the amazing community of people that I had the privilege to work with, get to know, and leave with lifetime friendships, one big THANK YOU. This organization is made up of an amazing group of people and partners; internals, externals, SDMs, DSMs, NSMs, SRM, AMG, NSO, KPP, scheduling, marketing, product, sales enablement, data/analytics, HR, learning and development, finance, compliance, technology, etc. Sorry if I forgot anyone and for all the acronyms but IYKYK. The collaboration and support is endless, thank you all for bringing such a beautiful organizational culture alive each day. I may not be on the field everyday competing with you all in the game, but I will be rooting you all on from the stands going forward. You can ask Kambria and Tanner, supporting and cheering people on in games is something I do very well. All my best to everyone, on to the next adventure! Jeff

Jeff Hughes liked thisJeff Hughes liked this“There is greatness in this room.” — Marlon Smith I am still reminiscing on my experience at Brighthouse Financial's Scholar Connections Summer programming at the end of June. The summit was filled with three days of high-impact learning experiences centered around leadership, cultivating community, discovering purpose, and giving back. One of my favorite experiences was collaborating with Digi-Bridge to create STEAM kits for local Charlotte students in underserved communities. My passion for STEAM has played such a significant role in my life and continues to influence my academic and professional goals. Being able to serve alongside my 2026–2027 cohort of scholars for the second year in a row made the experience even more meaningful. It was a reminder of the importance of using our skills and opportunities to create an impact in the communities around us. Another highlight was participating in a fireside chat with Brighthouse Financial executives. Hearing them share their personal experiences, career journeys, and lessons on how to use our time and resources to set ourselves apart in the workplace was incredibly valuable. We also had the opportunity to ask questions about career development, navigating professional spaces, and what it means to be a leader wherever you are. Their advice reminded me that leadership is not defined by a title, but by how we show up and contribute in the spaces we are in. I was also grateful to hear from our keynote speaker, Marlon Smith. His message and his book, Living With Purpose, emphasized the importance of setting intentional goals and developing routines that turn those goals into action. His words have continued to resonate with me even after the summit. Following up with Mr. Smith this past week has allowed me to continue reflecting on his message and think more intentionally about how I can apply those principles to my own journey. This experience reminded me that the person I become in the future is shaped by the choices and habits I build today. I want to thank Andreia Graddick Dahi and Curtis Samuels for continuing to pour into the Brighthouse Scholars Program. Your intentionality and dedication to creating meaningful experiences for scholars does not go unnoticed. And to my fellow scholars and my mentor, Naomi Sinclair, thank you for making this experience unforgettable. I am grateful for the conversations, connections, lessons, and memories that I will continue to carry with me throughout my college journey. Still reflecting. Still learning. Still growing.

Insurance operations leaders, not CIOs or CTOs, are the ones modernizing technology in the insurance industry, writes Todd Greenbaum, president and CEO, Input 1. “This new reality requires operations leaders to think differently about their roles. For years, their success was measured by efficiency and stability,” Greenbaum writes. “Today, they are expected to be agents of transformation. That means shifting from maintaining processes to redesigning them, from being end users of technology to acting as its architects, and from working in silos to leading hybrid teams that blend business expertise with technical fluency.” https://bit.ly/3M7BpKf #InsureThink #insurtech #DigitalInsurance

AI is transforming the insurance industry. But innovation without leadership only magnifies the risk. As insurers accelerate use of AI across underwriting, claims, and customer engagement, a new executive role is emerging to ensure strategy, compliance, and innovation stay aligned: the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO). In Slayton Search Partners' latest article, Jay D'Aprile explores why the Chief AI Officer in insurance is becoming a business imperative, not a luxury, and how this role bridges the gap between technology and trust. https://lnkd.in/ewPrnXrN #Insurance #ArtificialIntelligence #Leadership #DigitalTransformation #ExecutiveSearch #AI #InsurTech

It’s no longer a question of if AI will transform insurance, the better question is how insurers will use it to transform themselves. Jane Possell (CIO, CNA Insurance) breaks down why real innovation means leveraging agentic AI to completely reimagine core insurance processes from the ground up.
