EPC execution is never lost in the dashboards — it’s lost in the field long before the dashboards admit it. I’ve spent 40+ years inside refinery, chemical, petrochemical, transmission, and capital‑project environments. The patterns never change: Contractor flow tells you schedule health. Analyzer trailers tell you commissioning posture. SCADA vendor parking tells you readiness gaps. Craft rotation tells you discipline. Crane movement tells you procurement truth. Field walkdowns tell you more than any KPI ever will. You can’t learn this from software. You learn it from decades of deterministic scheduling, SCADA/I&E commissioning, analyzer systems, transmission planning, and EPC readiness under refinery‑grade pressure. That’s why I operate the same way I always have: Direct with the hiring entity. No intermediaries. No encrypted routing. No vendor‑layer impedance. My value to EPC leadership has always been the same: tacit acumen — the ability to read execution posture from the outside, anticipate drift before it becomes visible, and stabilize commissioning, SCADA, analyzer, and project‑controls environments when the stakes are highest. I’ve done this across: Bechtel — commissioning, analyzer/I&E readiness, deterministic schedule alignment Fluor — refinery/chemical execution, SCADA/I&E troubleshooting, Primavera integration Major TSP (PSEG)— transmission long‑range planning, GIS/PLS‑CAD route development Zachry Group — turnaround readiness, analyzer/SCADA commissioning, craft support Technip Energies (PCM) — EPC readiness, project‑controls engineering, risk‑readiness heatmaps Industrial execution lost its compass. I became mine. If your capital program needs refinery‑grade situational awareness, commissioning stability, Primavera‑driven schedule integrity, or SCADA/analyzer readiness without vendor interference, connect directly. I’m available for direct engagement.

When Should You Replace an Asset That Is Still Working? “But it’s still working.” Those four words have probably delayed more asset-management decisions than almost anything else. An asset does not have to fail before it becomes the wrong asset to keep. The real question is: Is continuing to operate this asset still the best risk-adjusted economic decision? Reliability is not the same as value An ageing asset can remain operational while becoming increasingly expensive and risky to own. More maintenance, specialist intervention, longer outages, expensive spares and declining efficiency can gradually erode its value. The asset is still working—but is it still creating value? Run-to-failure isn’t always a strategy For a low-criticality asset, running to failure may be entirely rational. For a critical asset, it can simply mean transferring a planned decision into an unplanned event—with potentially significant consequences for safety, production, revenue and availability. The worst time to decide what to do with a critical asset is often after it has failed. Don’t let maintenance hide the real cost Consider an ageing motor requiring another bearing replacement, another inspection and another repair. Each intervention may appear reasonable individually. Collectively, however, the organisation may be spending significant money simply keeping an ageing asset alive. At some point, the question changes from: “Can we repair it?” to: “Why are we continuing to invest in it?” Technical life isn’t economic life A newer asset may offer lower energy consumption, better reliability, improved monitoring, easier maintenance and better availability of spares. The existing asset still working tells us about its technical condition. It doesn’t necessarily tell us about its economic viability. The real replacement question Don’t replace an asset simply because it is old. Don’t wait simply because it hasn’t failed. Consider: Asset health + criticality + failure consequence + maintenance cost + efficiency + obsolescence + lifecycle cost Then ask: “Is continuing to operate this asset still the best risk-adjusted decision?” An asset can have five years of technical life remaining and very little strategic value. That is where asset management becomes more than maintenance. It becomes risk management, capital allocation and business strategy. How does your organisation decide when an asset has reached the end of its economic life—even when it is still working?
