Todays announcement was a huge breakthrough in Computational Biology and here is the the Red ThreadX take on why it matters ( context over content ) As shared in our Pluot Report 'Synthetic Everything' we explained the concept of Synthetic Biology and how #AI, allowing us to treat DNA like software and ACTG like Code, is advancing us swiftly to a new era in medicine and life saving, life extending therapeutics. Last week at the NVIDIA conference in DC we had the pleasure of hearing Marc Tessier-Lavigne and the father of SynBio, George Church of the Wyss Institute at Harvard University discuss how Quantum and advanced compute speed and power will further accelerate breakthroughs And today, Xaira Therapeutics announced their publication in Nature Magazine their de novo design of antibodies using RFDiffusion ( an AI program that uses a diffusion model approach, similar to image generators like DALL-E, to design novel protein structures ) either from scratch or to create new proteins that bind to specific targets In Silico: on Chips instead of in a Lab. Context: Antibodies are the dominant class of protein therapeutics, with over 160 antibody therapeutics currently licensed globally and a market value expected to reach US$445 billion in the next 5 years. Currently, identifying epitope-specific antibodies relies on animal immunization or screening of antibody libraries to identify candidate molecules that bind to a desired target, These methods are laborious, time-consuming and can fail to identify antibodies that interact with the therapeutically relevant epitope. In response to backlash, the Administration reinstated the awards the next day.
