Gopal K Mukka liked thisGopal K Mukka liked thisAny pursuit of superintelligence has to be grounded in the core principle that if the AI we build is not helping humanity and under human control, it's not worth pursuing. We also need to accelerate and spread the benefits of AI, such that they are diffused broadly across countries, communities, and companies. This requires a frontier ecosystem in which both closed and open-source models can thrive. And for firms, it’s imperative that they retain full control over their unique and tacit knowledge. Every organization should be able to build its own continuous learning loop/hill climbing machine, without becoming dependent on any one model provider, and have the ability to embed its own knowledge into models and weights they control. So, in this context, we welcome the research, focus, and deliberate pacing needed to get alignment right as the design goal. We also welcome ideas like "embedded evaluators" and the broader efforts to develop the mechanisms to make this more than just talk. The key is that this cannot be controlled by a handful of entities, but must have broad representation across the ecosystem, countries, and fields, including academia. This is the approach we are taking: broad access and choice at every layer of the AI stack; enterprise control of learning loops and models; and the “Code of Conduct” that underlies our own first party MAI models that we’ll publish tomorrow for public consultation.

Gopal K Mukka reacted on thisGopal K Mukka reacted on thisAlmost five years ago, I walked into a Business Analyst interview for a Financial Services role knowing absolutely nothing about the industry. Not "a bit rusty." Nothing. 😅 Zero industry background, zero product knowledge, and a healthy suspicion of every acronym, I now realise, exist mostly to make everyone else feel slightly important. To be fair, there are fields — compliance, actuarial, clinical — where deep domain expertise isn't optional, it's the whole job. Plenty of others just think they're one of them. My hiring manager looked past what I knew and focused on how I thought: curiosity, problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and the willingness to learn. Fast forward almost 5 years, and I've delivered a fair few projects, learned more about financial services than I ever expected, and can survive most finance conversations without secretly Googling terms under the table. Most being the key word. This reinforced something I've seen across every industry I've worked in: the best BAs aren't the ones who arrive knowing everything. They're the ones who keep asking: 👉 Why do we do it this way? 👉 What problem are we actually solving? 👉 Can someone explain that acronym? That last one is usually followed by a room full of people realising they've used it for 10 years and nobody remembers what it stands for. Someone will confidently guess anyway. They'll be wrong. 😆 Domain knowledge is valuable. But for me, it wasn't the starting point, it was the outcome. Curiosity came first. And I'll always be grateful to Belinda Wajzer for taking a chance on someone whose industry knowledge, at the time, could have comfortably fit on a Post-it note. With room to spare.

September is quiet on SAP hiring boards. That's exactly why it matters. 📆 Here's a pattern that doesn't get talked about enough: most SAP hiring doesn't happen when a project starts. It happens weeks or months earlier, when the budget for that project gets approved. And budget approval season, for most enterprises, is right now — Q4 planning for the next fiscal year. What this means in practice: For companies still deciding on their ECC-to-S/4HANA timeline, the budget conversation happening this quarter determines whether they're staffing a migration team in January or scrambling for one in June. The organizations that lock in headcount now get first pick of experienced consultants. The ones that wait are competing for whoever's left once everyone else has already started. For SAP professionals, this is the quiet window before the loud one. Job postings won't spike until Q1, once budgets are approved and projects officially kick off. But the actual decisions — which vendor, which team structure, how many contractors versus permanent hires — are being made in planning meetings right now, before a single posting goes live. What to actually do with this: If you're a hiring manager: don't wait for your project to be greenlit to start the conversation with a staffing partner. Start it while the budget is still being finalized, so you're not starting your search the same week everyone else is. If you're a consultant: don't wait for the job board to get busy. The people getting placed into Q1 projects are often having conversations in Q3 and Q4, quietly, before the role is even fully defined. The pattern behind it: SAP hiring isn't reactive to projects starting. It's reactive to budgets closing. If you only pay attention when the posting appears, you're already a step behind someone who paid attention to the calendar. If your interview process takes 12 rounds, well...you're the problem. A senior SAP leader recently walked me through a hiring process that should embarrass any serious organization. He was approached for a VP-level SAP role: Strong background. Decades in SAP. Positive feedback throughout the process. What did the company do? They dragged him through at least 12 interviews, flew him across the country for an onsite interview, stretched the process over roughly two months, and then hit pause at the offer stage. No offer extended, no decisive feedback and no backup candidate. If you have concerns about someone’s S/4 HANA depth or quantifiable achievements, ask those questions within the first two conversations, not after round 12. When companies invite a committee to make a decision, what they really produce is paralysis. Good candidates notice, and they tell people like me about it. The candidate isn't the issue if your interview process takes 12 rounds.

Most SAP FICO searches go sideways for the same reason: nobody decided if FI or CO actually needs the hire before the req went live. If you're going to hire an SAP FICO consultant this year, name the module first. KORE1 data shows direct-hire pay running $135,000 to $195,000 base in 2026, with a properly scoped search closing in three to six weeks.
