Emma Moore shared thisThe Dais — 008. Filter or Foe, Beautiful Empty Rooms and at Least Three Open Chairs The Board of County Commissioners meets at Centennial Hall—a genuinely nice auditorium. Good chairs. Professional dais. There's a small AV team inside the Communications Department covering every meeting, every Planning Commission hearing, every livestream going out to Facebook, YouTube, and the county channel simultaneously. We submitted a records request to find out what that operation actually costs. We respect the hustle. On Thursday morning, there were a handful of people in those chairs. You know that Instagram account Miserable Men? Husbands outside fitting rooms looking like they've quietly accepted their fate? This is the opposite. Moon faces welcome. Smiley faces welcome. Anyone who wants to know why nearly 700 septic systems draining into the same aquifer might end up in your shower water is absolutely welcome. The room was ready. The stream was live. And three open board seats are waiting right now. Emma Moore shared thisNobody told Laurel Scowl how the process worked. She showed up. She researched. She spoke clearly. She got redirected. Not because she was wrong. Because she was in the wrong room at the wrong time doing the right thing — and nobody handed her the map. That map exists. It's just not posted anywhere. This week on The Dais we covered the first part of the March 17th El Paso County Board of County Commissioners meeting — and built the guide that should have been waiting at the door for every citizen who has ever shown up to a land use hearing and walked away feeling like the decision was already made. Evidence binders. Time pooling. CORA requests. The formal letter that enters the administrative record whether anyone responds to it or not. Step by step, phase by phase, with every contact, every deadline, and the exact language to use. Because staying aware is the first step. Knowing what to do next is the rest of it. 🎧 Listen or read: https://lnkd.in/g2bmUTxP 📋 Full citizen fight guide: https://lnkd.in/gDsEzxff 📂 Upload your questions: https://lnkd.in/gMSQ3M_G 🌐 storyseedstudios.com Volunteer: https://lnkd.in/gxwY4wCp #ElPasoCounty #ColoradoSprings #LocalGovernment #CivicEngagement #TheDais #LandUse #StorySeed

Emma Moore shared thisHow do we prepare the next generation for a world where financial literacy and digital personal safety are inextricably linked? https://lnkd.in/g3PhKcyaEmma Moore shared thisBridging the Gap: A Multi-Generational Guide to the Modern Economy & Digital Safety 🧵 How do we prepare the next generation for a world where financial literacy and digital personal safety are inextricably linked? For the last few months, four-part series designed to be a "Swiss Army Knife" for educators, parents, and students alike is ready for you to review at your leisure. "The Import Economy" isn't just a story; it's a practical roadmap for navigating two of the most critical challenges of our time: the mechanics of accounting and the realities of online grooming. This series serves as a versatile curriculum: For Homeschoolers: A foundational deep-dive into the "levers" of the economy, making complex accounting principles accessible through narrative. For Junior High & High School: A candid, protective guide to identifying the red flags of online grooming—equipping students with the "digital street smarts" they need to stay safe. For College & Beyond: A strategic look at the "Import Economy" and the economic forces that shape our global marketplace. Dive into Part III: The Levers That Work below. https://lnkd.in/gfyfH6_2 #Storytelling #FinancialLiteracy #OnlineSafety #Homeschooling #EdTech #StorySeedStudios #CreativeDirection

Emma Moore shared thisEpisode Two of The Dais is out. It's about subcommittees — what happens when the people who know the most have already filed the reports, used their three minutes, and watched the nodding. Then a subcommittee forms anyway. Familiar loop. Here's what to do with it: 1. Ask for evening meetings. Most public comment happens at 9am on a Tuesday. That's just how the calendar defaulted. You can ask for it to change: "I'd like to request that future meetings on [topic] include an evening session for working residents. Happy to help coordinate interest." Email that to your council member. Four minutes. 2. Stay the course. The subcommittee is not the end of the road. It's just a slower part of it. Coming back next cycle isn't failure — it's the job. 3. Bring more people. One person at the mic is a comment. Thirty people in the room is a signal. Numbers game. Play it like one. And if you do go to a meeting — you don't have to understand everything. Government language is its own dialect and nobody expects you to be fluent on day one. Just record it. Upload it to the StorySeed Studios dropbox. We'll help make sense of it and build a story from your experience. That's how we learn this together — one confused, curious person at a time. Episode Two is in the comments. About ten minutes. The Dais · Colorado Springs · No agenda. Just the agenda. https://lnkd.in/gJM5RnwK https://lnkd.in/gitBngk6 https://lnkd.in/gMBPUV82

Emma Moore shared thisEmma Moore shared thisLocal decisions shape local economies — but the process behind those decisions often stays out of view. “The Import Economy” is a four-part video series that looks at the quiet mechanics of civic decision-making: the meetings, the committees, the reports, and the small levers that move real outcomes for real communities. It’s an attempt to make that machinery a little more visible — and to tell the story of how things actually move (or don’t) inside local systems. If you have a few minutes, I’d love for you to watch the series and share your thoughts. Emma Moore posted thisWho is a woman who’s made an impact on your career? #IWD26 There are certain people who shape your life in quiet but powerful ways. When I was in college, there was a woman at the YMCA who inspired me more than she probably ever realized. She was about 50, married, raising kids, putting them through college, living a full and busy life. And yet every morning at 6 a.m., she was there teaching spin class with incredible energy. She also organized small triathlon-style training sessions for us—patiently teaching, encouraging, and making it fun. She never acted like we were a burden or like she was too busy. She showed up with enthusiasm, the coolest workout outfits, and a spirit that made you believe anything was possible. What stuck with me most wasn’t just her fitness or dedication—it was the example she set. She showed me that life doesn’t slow down at 50. It can still be vibrant, adventurous, and full of purpose. At a time when many people start to think about limits, she showed us what possibility looks like. I still carry that lesson with me today: age isn’t an ending—it’s just another chapter to keep growing, moving, and inspiring the people around you. To the mentors who show up early, lead with joy, and inspire the next generation without even knowing it—thank you.

Emma Moore shared thisYour legend days are not over. They have just begun. https://lnkd.in/gXBGnJJQEmma Moore shared thisTUESDAY FUNDAY… GOVERNMENT EDITION! Okay, okay — we know what you're thinking. "A county commissioners meeting? That sounds about as exciting as watching paint dry on a Tuesday morning." But HEAR US OUT. 👇 Your neighbors are making decisions about your roads, your land, your tax dollars, and your community — and they're doing it whether you show up or not. So why not crash the party? 🥳 📅 THIS TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 2026 📍 Centennial Hall Auditorium — 200 S. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs 🕘 9:00 AM — Board of County Commissioners (the main event — dress to impress) 🕙 9:30 AM — Informal Session (think of it as the after-party) Here's the deal: El Paso County government makes BIG decisions — zoning, roads, public health, spending YOUR money — and they do it in public meetings specifically so you can watch, listen, and yes… speak up. That's right. You can actually walk up to a microphone and talk to the people running your county. In real life. Like a boss. 🎤 Record, if you need and upload to us so we can transcribe and make it into a fun storyline! We know the terminology is intimidating and we can learn together. 📋 CHECK OUT WHAT'S ON THE AGENDA: 👉 Regular Meeting: https://lnkd.in/gVr63WZa 👉 Informal Session: https://lnkd.in/gW6UqeKS 👉 All Upcoming Meetings: https://lnkd.in/g6C85mpQ ✅ Free to attend ✅ Open to the public ✅ Way more impactful than yelling at the news or leaving a comment in a random post on a site. ✅ Great story to tell at dinner ("Oh, what did I do Tuesday? I literally spoke to my county commissioners.") So grab your coffee ☕, put on your civic-minded hat 🎩, and come see how the sausage gets made. El Paso County runs on engaged residents — and that means YOU. See you there! 🤝🏔️

Emma Moore shared thisThe Colorado Springs Community Resource Guide has been updated for this week. 📋 Food pantries. Housing. Diapers. Jobs. Transportation. A Spanish-language section. All in one place — with phone numbers and websites. But not everyone is online when they need help. Download the free PDF, print a few copies, and put them where people are — a coffee shop counter, a windshield, a glovebox. The most powerful thing you can do is simply make sure the right information reaches the right person at the right time. This is fundamental. And if you're not in Colorado Springs — your community needs this too. Call 211, search your local food bank or United Way, and build a simple list. One page. A phone number and an address. That's enough to change someone's day. There are always ways to help. Start with a list. 📥 Download the PDF + view the full guide: https://lnkd.in/gDtpktkC hashtag #ColoradoSprings #CommunityResources #PikesPeak #PayItForward

Emma Moore reacted on thisEmma Moore reacted on thisI’m always struck by how my feelings about Memorial Day are different every year. There have been years where the distance between loss and grief have felt vast, and years where they remain neighbors in my heart. Time doesn’t heal all wounds but it does smooth the sharp edges. This is the only constant I have found. Top Pruitt was 9 months from retirement when he volunteered to do one more deployment. He was killed by an SVBIED that wounded several other Marines and an Afghan policeman. He had spent his last hours sharing in the danger of patrolling alongside junior Marines when he could’ve been in a cushy office job somewhere back at Camp Pendleton. It does not matter whether you have served, whether you have lost, or whether you are just acutely aware of the terrible cost of liberty that has been borne by an ever smaller number of families across America. Enjoy your barbecues and your weekend; they would want that. Tell their stories and speak their names aloud. Call their parents, their spouses or fiancées, and their kids. Tell them how much their fallen loved ones meant to you. Strive to live a life they would be proud of.

Emma Moore liked thisEmma Moore liked thisI gave my Sundays back to myself because I was burning out and it changed everything. Sunday was typically the day I "got ahead." I believed it was discipline, but it was actually rooted in fear that if I stopped moving, the business would stop moving with me...it sounds ridiculous saying it out loud now, but it was true! I can’t be the only one to have felt this way, right?? Now when my laptop closes on Saturday, it doesn’t open again until Monday and just that one day has given me a renewed sense of drive and perspective that I can actually work “on” the business instead of just “in” it. Here's what my Sundays actually look like now: 1. A long workout in the morning, usually the gym followed by a swim. 2. Cooking real food for myself. 3. A walk with no destination and my phone left at home. 4. Reading something that has nothing to do with finance or business. 5. Doing absolutely NOTHING on purpose for at least an hour. Simple! That's what makes it work though. The outcome is that I'm building towards something different now. More of what I love, less of what I don’t (again so simple!) Preventing burn out starts with the smallest possible boundary you can actually hold, and Sundays were mine. One day a week, fifty-two days a year, returned to me :)

Emma Moore reacted on thisEmma Moore reacted on thisA year ago I started building Golden Forge — 163 acres at 8,600 feet in the Colorado Rockies. Since then it’s been nonstop: building cabins and a yurt, hauling lumber and gravel, trenching water lines, dealing with easements and lawsuits, writing SOPs and emergency plans, fundraising, insurance calls, fixing generators, setting fence posts, hosting events, trying to build a nonprofit from scratch, and somehow getting more than 100 veterans, active duty, and frontline people through the ranch in our first year. Most of it held together with volunteers, favors, caffeine, and stubbornness. Somewhere in there, I stopped riding my bike. Not really intentionally. I just disappeared into the build. One day I was training 5–6 days a week. Then little by little it got replaced with emails at midnight, calls with lawyers, moving rock, cleaning cabins, chasing grants, and trying to keep the whole thing moving. Months went by fast. Lately, though, something has shifted. We’re finally building a real core team around Golden Forge, and for the first time in a while it feels like I can come up for air a little instead of carrying every single piece alone. Today was my first real ride in a long while down here in Arizona. Hot. Windy. Humbling. Fitness is gone. My ass hurts. But somewhere out there in the desert, suffering a little again, I felt more like myself than I have in a while. I think for a while I convinced myself the mission was enough. But building a place centered around resilience while neglecting the things that actually make me resilient and happy probably isn’t a great long-term strategy. So this is me saying it out loud for accountability: I want to get back to that part of myself. Long rides. Big climbs. Clear head. Strong body. Less disappearing into the work. And if you’ve ever buried yourself so deeply in building something meaningful that you looked up one day and realized you disappeared a little too — I’d genuinely like to hear how you found your way back.

But he never stopped trying. He served in the U.S. Army as a Buffalo Soldier with the 24th Infantry Regiment, went on to earn 11 college degrees, taught for 47 years, and became a lawyer later in life. John passed away on January 28, 1998. He spent more than a century learning, teaching, and working in the law. He kept going when most people would have stopped. Few people know his story, but it shows what a lifetime of persistence can look like. (Photo: John Morton-Finney)

Emma Moore liked thisWhat this headline fails to mention, and what I think is worth highlighting, is that the festival is celebrating its 25th edition. I can still recall handing out flyers on the UCLA campus as a Theater Arts major, inviting friends, strangers, professors, and administrators to attend. Now, more than 25 years later, it’s still going strong. Which truly couldn’t have been done with out the support of the many incredible sponsors, visionaries, board members, supporters, and community members who have continued to show up again and again, through and through. To say I am humbled and proud to be part of the incredible team behind this would be a huge understatement. What drives us is a shared and unwavering sense of why we do this work. The arts have always been, and will continue to be, an essential and vital part of the human experience and culture. They remain at the forefront of humanity’s growth and evolution. Please come and enjoy the cinema, purchase a ticket to support the artists and creatives who work tirelessly to help us learn and see ourselves reflected on the big screen. Don’t miss out, I promise you won’t be disappointed. I’d like to personally give a heartfelt thank you and remembrance to a dear Board Member we recently lost this year, Dr. Rick Miller, who completely embodied the work that LFI is doing, who saw the vision, and lead us. Emma Moore liked thisEmma Moore liked thisBig shoutout to XTERRA WETSUITS, proudly based in San Diego and helping athletes of all levels feel confident in the water. When I first got into triathlon 12 years ago, my very first wetsuit was an XTERRA—and I’ve owned several since. That says a lot. Quality, comfort, and performance you can trust. At beginner open water swim, one of the biggest concerns for new swimmers is how constricting wetsuits can feel. Totally normal. But once you get moving, you’ll notice so many of us are relaxed and comfortable in our XTERRA suits—built to move with you, not against you. If you’re new to triathlon or open water swimming, having gear that gives you confidence makes all the difference. XTERRA continues to deliver. 🌊🏊♂️💪 #XTERRAWetsuits #OpenWaterSwim #Triathlon #SanDiego #BeginnerTriathlete

The best brands don’t just collect feedback—they grow from it. A drop in usage? That’s not failure. It’s a flag. A frustrated comment? That’s a design opportunity. Today’s smartest teams treat feedback like fuel— —> For better UX —> For clearer messaging —> For stronger connections Because it’s not a checkbox. It’s a loop. And it’s shaping the future of customer-led growth. 👇 Read the blog to see how to build one that actually works. https://hubs.li/Q03s8M9T0

In an era where 83% of designers, product managers, and researchers agree that research should be conducted at every stage of product development, it’s critical to understand discovery research in UX. Discovery research is a tool that helps you dig into current user needs and prioritize the problems worth solving. It provides the user insights needed to build theme-based roadmaps, prioritize high-impact features, and avoid costly development mistakes. Most importantly, it ensures that every dollar spent on product development addresses real user needs rather than perceived problems.
