Elliot Christenson shared thisPeople can confirm their own biases with these sorts of parables. I'm sure he occasionally did take high value C-Suite level people out for a beer and a walk. The takeaway is not about "beer". The REAL lesson to learn from Steve is that he wanted ONLY A-Players. There are a great many people with whom I could have a beer and a walk that are not A-Players. A-Players want to work with other A-Players. B-Players want to work with C-Players. A-Players want to learn, grow, be inspired, and be inspiring to other A-Players. B-Players want to feed their egos, hold others down, coast, and extract unfair value from customers. The high-points of working for me were when I worked for A-Players or hired A-Players. It's so hard to do right. Once your culture slips, you can't get it back without drastic measures. Anyone in the #a11y community will tell you this, but companies continue to use them anyway. There are no simple fixes. Accessibility needs to be baked in from the beginning if you don’t want to have to spend far more time and money down the line to have someone qualified go back and makes the necessary fixes.
