I think this story can teach us something about what really matters in life. This is my husband Carlos. The one in the middle. I need to brag on him a bit. (He’s going to hate it) If I ever met a man who embodied the phrase “never stop growing” it’s him. He has a lot of titles. Dr., M.D., all the acronyms for his various board certifications, Papi to our girls, and most recently, Lt. Commander. By all accounts, he’s had a fabulous career in medicine. I met him while living in Venezuela a few months after he graduated med school. He’s had twists and turns and setbacks across 3 countries, but 20 years on, and he’s one of the most well liked and respected Infectious Diseases specialists you’ll find anywhere. Everyone loves Dr. Hartmann But he’s always had a mind for politics and history. He loves learning about how nations are formed and changed over time. The cycle of the world order. And years ago, he wondered what it would be like to be part of the U.S. military. I shot him down. Over and over. I told him about all of the beurocracy he would undoubtedly despise, the red tape, the general chaos that sometimes comes with it. I saw it with my brother, a Major who flew F-15s. He is a very practical and pragmatic man. I have rarely seen him do something that is anything but (besides marrying me.) But one day he came to me and said “I thought about it. When I’m 80 and looking back, will I regret trying or regret not trying?” I think you know the answer. Here’s a photo of him representing the Navy at Sail 250 which kicked off yesterday in New Orleans. He’s the one in the middle. It brings tears to my eyes. Yes, there is all the red tape and beaurocracy and confusion I warned him about. And who knows if it will be what he expected. But at least we know that when, God willing, we are old and grayer than we are now, we can regret the things we tried and not the things left undone. The two-day event brought together the league's top programs and put the growth and competitive standard of women's collegiate flag football on full display. The weekend culminated with Marymount being crowned the inaugural champion and lifting "The Betty," a trophy that honors legacy, leadership, and community impact. With support from Johnson & Johnson and the Betty Wold Johnson Foundation, and fans following along both on site and via livestream, the championship marked a meaningful close to the league's inaugural season and an important step toward the future of the sport.

I think most marketers still don’t fully realize what this changes. Search is no longer just: keywords → rankings → clicks Google is rebuilding Search around AI. At Google I/O, they announced: 1. A new AI-powered Search box that dynamically expands so users can describe what they actually need. 2. Multimodal search support across text, images, files, videos, and even Chrome tabs. 3. Persistent context where users can continue conversations from AI Overviews into AI Mode. 4. Gemini 3.5 Flash is now the default model powering AI Mode globally. 5. Search Agents that can monitor the web, synthesize updates, and take actions for users. 6. Agentic coding capabilities that can generate custom UI, dashboards, simulations, and mini apps directly inside Search. The important shift here is bigger than “AI search.” Google is moving from: search engine to: AI operating layer. And that changes how content gets discovered too. A few of the bigger takeaways for me: AI is getting put into everything. Campaign creation, optimization, creative support, reporting, none of that is surprising at this point. The bigger question is how we use it strategically instead of just handing over the keys and hoping for the best. Keyword strategy alone isn’t enough anymore. Search behavior is shifting, and if you’re still thinking about paid search in a very traditional way, you’re probably already behind. Intent, audience signals, creative, landing page experience, it all matters. Creative speed is getting faster. Platforms are making it easier than ever to spin up assets quickly. That’s great, but speed without solid messaging and testing strategy doesn’t move the needle. Measurement keeps getting messier. Between automation, modeled attribution, privacy changes, and platform reporting differences, strong tracking foundations matter more than ever. Search, YouTube, Demand Gen, Shopping, the lines keep blurring, which means strategy has to get more connected too. Biggest takeaway? The agencies that will stand out aren’t the ones blindly following every platform recommendation. Yes, technology advances. Yes, buyers change. BUT there are a lot of things in sales that will never change: 1 - Sales will ALWAYS be about solving problems and helping people. ↳ People can tell when someone is only interested in selling something. ↳ The focus should always be on the problem you solve, not the product. 2 - Listen always has been, and always will be, more important than talking. ↳ The best salespeople listen 2-3X more than they talk. ↳ They ask the right questions and give their customers time to answer. ↳ The encourage their customers to elaborate and go deeper. 3 - People buy from people they TRUST. ↳ In an AI dominated world, trust has never been more valuable. ↳ If they don't trust you, they'll find a salesperson they do trust. 4 - Never sell something to someone who doesn't NEED it. ↳ You might win a sale, but chances are it will get cancelled. ↳ There's also the risk they tell others about their bad experience. 5 - Lying is NEVER acceptable in sales. ↳ If you lie to win a sale, chances are it won't last. ↳ No good salesperson will ever need to lie to win a sale. 6 - Sales success will always be based on hard and smart work. ↳ Hard work is important, but hard smart work will always win. ↳ Quality and quantity come hand in hand in sales. 7 - Salespeople need to be RESILIENT to win at sales. ↳ You'll face a lot of rejection, objection and challenge. ↳ The best in sales walk through it and know how to deal with it. 8 - The most important sales skill is the ability to ADAPT. ↳ Adapting to new tech, new platforms, new tools and new processes. ↳ Adapting to each individual prospect and customer. I'll be the first to embrace new things in sales. But I'll always follow the basics. And after 20+ years in sales I can tell you one thing... The basics will always win. Always.
