Preventing violence and suicide in schools starts long before a crisis. Grateful to join Dana Kozak, Supervisor in Hamilton Township School District (NJ), and Jeffrey Gale Director at the New Jersey Department of Education’s Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning, today at the New Jersey Women’s Leadership Conference to discuss Reducing Violence and Suicide in Schools through Coordinated State and Local Leadership. Our conversation focused on how schools, districts, and state agencies can work together to identify concerns early and support students before situations escalate. Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management is most effective when it operates as part of a coordinated, whole-child approach. Literacy is more than an education issue—it’s a workforce issue, an economic issue, and a community issue. On Thursday, February 26th, business, education, nonprofit, and community leaders will come together for an important conversation on how literacy directly impacts workforce readiness and Pennsylvania’s long-term economic competitiveness. Guided by research and practitioner insights from PA Teach Plus, this discussion will explore how literacy challenges—from early education through adulthood—shape talent pipelines, employee preparedness, and regional growth. Speaking at the event: 🔹 Dr. Diane Fierle, an accomplished educator and leader with more than 30 years of experience across instructional, administrative, and higher education roles. Dr. Fierle will share a practitioner’s perspective on literacy, curriculum, professional learning, and the real-world connection between strong literacy systems and workforce development. 🔹 Rachel Garnick, Coalition Manager for the Pennsylvania Literacy Coalition at PA Teach Plus, who works at the intersection of education, policy, and collaboration.
