Inspired by the nature of simulation. AI is often described as simulation, but current AI systems aren’t truly procedural in that sense. Also, inspired by PointIndex’s Houdini workflow on Patreon, explores a variation of that idea. A face-like mesh (born from one of my sketches) is fractured, converted to VDB volumes, and reshaped into a thick fluid-like surface before being passed through a vellum simulation so the material can stretch, sag, and drip like maple syrup. The geometry is then smoothed and remeshed, exported to USD, and rendered with a glossy syrup shader and studio lighting using Solairs. The Solaris workflow is also impressive; materials and lighting come together extremely quickly with Karma, which is surprisingly fast.

AI × Emotional Intelligence × Music: A New Map for Resonant Tech by Julie Caitlin Brown AI is accelerating—but “smart” isn’t the same as *emotionally* intelligent. I’m exploring a practical bridge: mapping AI through **musical vibration and mathematics**. Music is mathematics in motion. Harmony, rhythm, intervals—these aren’t just aesthetics; they encode patterns humans feel as coherence or dissonance. If we train models to recognize and align to those patterns, AI can do more than classify emotion—it can **attune** to it. Why this matters • Better human–AI collaboration through resonance, not dominance • Interfaces that adapt to nervous system states in real time • Ethical guardrails that privilege coherence over force Core idea Emotional intelligence isn’t a bolt-on feature; it’s a *tuning* problem. Unreal Engine 6 is setting the stage to captialize on gaming and generative AI, not ML, captial G GENERATIVE AI. But they are moving carefully, naturally. Environments. PCG and procedural tools populate meshes automatically, in an art directable way. Mega Plants create trees from rules (made in Houdini) from discrete meshes. The line between procedural and generative is getting very grey. The next step naturally would be to add generated meshes and textures. Most likely text/photo to mesh or image collection to meshes. Characters. Having spoken to some game studios about PCap and VO. It's not feasible to record body, face ,and audio for every line in some of these modern games. There are 100,000s of lines and UE6 will be pushing for infinite, generated lines which naturally rely on generated voices and animations. This realization shook my "I want to MOCAP everything" mind, but we move on. Game NPCs driven by generative AI, what a scandal. Character Clothing. Marvelous Designer has introduced AI posing recently and their core 3D tech for cloth sim and refitting just needs a bit of generative AI for automatic textures and photo to garment pattern. Integrate that directly in to UE MetaHuman creator and it's "Text/Photo to rigged Outfit Asset" and with textures etc. I can do this with Tripo already but it lacks the control of Marvelous. to benefit properly from gen AI / paremetric texture generation. Music and Audio. UE5 has a sleeper hit of a sound generation system that has been slowly growing in power and control for procedural run time control of sounds in music in games. When Suno/ElevenLabs/UMG/WB can license their models, it would allow for fully generative music in real time to be created. Suno makes a reasonable song from text in under a minute today. I think that this will take a long time to really be harnessed and to create an end product that rivals what traditional game devs and artists can create today. We aren't generating GTA VI before GTA VII. But these are the tools that games like No Man's Sky and Minecraft could use to actually make dynamic "infinite" games interesting. Even with the computer handling so much of the heavy lifting, these games would still be boring "slop" without a team of human artists directing it and making it relatable to other humans. I think that the narrative story writing and lead voice acting still need to come from humans almost completely.

Attention Is Not What You Need Zhang Chong https://lnkd.in/gwpRJR_u Abstract: We revisit a basic question in sequence modeling: is explicit self-attention actually necessary for strong performance and reasoning? We argue that standard multi-head attention is best seen as a form of tensor lifting: hidden vectors are mapped into a high-dimensional space of pairwise interactions, and learning proceeds by constraining this lifted tensor through gradient descent. This mechanism is extremely expressive but mathematically opaque, because after many layers it becomes very hard to describe the model with a small family of explicit invariants. To explore an alternative, we propose an attention-free architecture based on Grassmann flows. Instead of forming an L by L attention matrix, our Causal Grassmann layer (i) linearly reduces token states, (ii) encodes local token pairs as two-dimensional subspaces on a Grassmann manifold via Plucker coordinates, and (iii) fuses these geometric features back into the hidden states through gated mixing. Information therefore propagates by controlled deformations of low-rank subspaces over multi-scale local windows, so the core computation lives on a finite-dimensional manifold rather than in an unstructured tensor space. On the Wikitext-2 language modeling benchmark, purely Grassmann-based models with 13 to 18 million parameters achieve validation perplexities within about 10 to 15 percent of size-matched Transformers. On the SNLI natural language inference task, a Grassmann-Plucker head on top of DistilBERT slightly outperforms a Transformer head, with best validation and test accuracies of 0.8550 and 0.8538 compared to 0.8545 and 0.8511. We analyze the complexity of Grassmann mixing, show linear scaling in sequence length for fixed rank, and argue that such manifold-based designs offer a more structured route toward geometric and invariant-based interpretations of neural reasoning.

Every photo, video, or voice clip you share online can be copied or misused without consent. Your digital self is both a vulnerable asset and a living canvas: it can be exploited, but it can also carry intention, meaning, and presence. In my research (Ritual Interfaces: AI as Witness and the Reimagining of Technology Through Indigenous Logics), I explore how human gestures, breath, and ritualized action transmit knowledge that AI can witness but cannot fully replicate. These principles can guide us in protecting and cultivating our digital identity. How to Respond—Practically and Humanely 1. Highlight Your Human Presence Small nuances—breath, pauses, gestures—make your digital content uniquely yours. Algorithms can’t replicate these “digital fingerprints.” In my research, ritual gestures and vocalizations carry un-copyable knowledge, offering a model for creating digital presence that AI can witness but not exploit. 2. Practice Intentional Sharing Before posting, ask: Why am I sharing this? Who will see it? Curate your content like a portfolio, not a feed. Intentionality builds presence that AI observes without compromising your identity, mirroring the protective, meaningful spaces created in ritualized performance. 3. Advocate for Ethical Witnessing in Tech Support platforms that respect consent and provenance. Push for AI systems that witness rather than extract, honouring human presence rather than replicating it. This aligns directly with the vision of AI as witness: relational, accountable, and ethical. Digital identity isn’t just a security issue—it’s a canvas for expression, ethics, and agency. 11.🚨XR Professionals: it's time for a more realistic view of quality in XR training!🚨 The debate around what constitutes “quality” in XR training often centres on concerns about surface-level visual fidelity —pixel count, polygons, textures, lighting effects. But true instructional quality runs much deeper. According to ISO 9001:2015, quality is simply the “degree to which a set of inherent characteristics of an object fulfils the requirements.” So in our context of quality: how should "the requirements" for a XR training experience be defined, specified and ultimately assessed? The critical (and too often overlooked) dimension of quality is task fidelity. Fidelity in training isn’t about making things look pretty or photo-realistic - it’s about how defining how closely the training needs to replicate specific real-world tasks, conditions, and performance expectations to achieve the specified objectives. The goal? Ensure what learners do in XR represents with what they’ll need to do in the real world, without distracting them or wasting effort, budget or resources. Here’s the process that works: ✅ Start with a Role Performance Statement (Role PS) - Ideally derived from a robust Role Analysis (RA). This defines what success looks like in the real job. ✅ Map objectives to fidelity requirements Not every element of the experience needs ultra-realistic representation. Focus on what is essential for task performance. High fidelity where it impacts outcomes; simplicity where it doesn’t. ✅ Avoid the “more detail is better” trap Adding unnecessary visual or functional elements inflates costs and can distract learners. Sometimes, the most effective training isn’t the flashiest—it’s the one that gets the job done. ✅ Champion the fidelity analysis process as a cornerstone of quality. Because in the end, it’s not about how real it looks—it’s about how well it prepares people for specific real world tasks. So yes - let's keep pushing for visual excellence. But let’s also push for optimised instructional clarity and relevance.
