Based on the response to the dance, I wanted to share a little behind-the-scenes moment from just a couple hours before showtime. This was the first full run with both robots performing together. Until then, I had only tested sections of the routine with Rivet. Astro had never attempted any choreography before. Same moves, same commands… but very different results. Rivet handled it without issue. Astro collapsed. Turns out he was still compensating for a payload that had been removed earlier. Once we updated the config, he was dancing like a pro. If there’s one thing programming a robot to dance teaches you, it’s how complex its normal motion really is. From CG shifts to footstep sequencing, body rotation, and timing—choreography mode strips away the some of the safety layers and gives you a whole new respect for how these robots move… and even more for what living things can do. #Robotics #EngineeringFails #BostonDynamics #MotionControl #RobotChoreography

Today's confirmation of AST SpaceMobile's Ligado spectrum transaction marks a new era. An investment in ASTS essentially values only the Ligado spectrum, while the consumer, government, and defense segments come as an added upside at no additional cost. L-Band MSS spectrum – AST SpaceMobile will hold long-term usage rights (80+ years) for up to 40 MHz of L-band spectrum owned by Ligado in the U.S. and Canada. An additional 5 MHz in the 1670-1675 MHz band in the U.S. is also included. What does a doctor's visit have to do with selling technology? As technologists we love our logic, our features and our architectures. We fall so deeply in love with these concepts that we forget what the client truly needs. I love the following analogy that quickly demonstrates our misplaced attention. Imagine you are at doctor's office with a pain in your chest. You need immediate attention and you would like to get rid of this pain. Doctor walks in and starts talking about how qualified they are to talk to you, which school they went too, what diplomas they got, etc Then they dive into review of the latest microbiology papers and how much they contributed to them. Then they start asking you the diagnostic questions and share all of the possible things that can be wrong with you. All of the possible drug cocktails we can try. You are still in pain but now also confused... Now imagine a contrasting scenario. Another doctor walks in and right away asks you where it hurts and how much it hurts on a scale from one to ten. Then they proceed to examine you. After thinking deeply for a bit, the doctor offers three courses of action with possible risks and outcomes. //this is not medical advice 1) you can go for an Xray and after that you can make a better assessment. 2) doctor can give you drug immediately because they think you just may have a tough case of cold. 3) you can choose to do nothing and we can wait if it gets worse. even though the doctor is an expert, they put you in control of your own issues with options to proceed. As we sell technology, it is always good to remember who we are selling it to, what pain it will address, and what words should we use to rise up the confidence in our products. Digital Twins I was slightly exasperated to hear from three people this week who disagreed with the name "digital twins." I seriously think by now that train has left the station. There are already more than 20,000 papers on digital twins on Google Scholar in 2025. My colleague Mike Grieves and I have battled these misconceptions since we adopted the name "digital twin" in 2010. One of the early names for the internet was "Intergalactic Computer Network." Similarly, an early name for cybersecurity was "Information Security (InfoSec)." In the early days of the digital twin concept, alternative opinions included digital systems model and even virtual clone. This week, somebody offered a mini-dissertation on the name "phygital twins" to replace it. Oh, good grief! Humpty Dumpty famously stated, "When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less." The widespread adoption by the broad community has voted and chosen the meaning of our term. What’s in a name? Sometimes, it is simply a perfect fit, and that is precisely the case with "digital twins."
