‼️ Attention scrappy founders who need to travel for biz dev‼️
I introduce to you... The
Frontier Airlines Go Wild Pass.
I'm coming home this weekend for the
TechPoint Youth Indiana State Robotics Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium (one of my favorite events of the year 😄 🤖), and this pass just continues to be one of the best purchases I've made to date.
Here are a couple of hacks I've picked up along the way to save $$$ and maximize my Go Wild Pass investment.
1) Buy the Go Wild Pass on Sale
I purchased mine during a promotion back in September for $299 (they do promotions often, so keep your eyes peeled), and my pass is active through April of 2027. The pass takes your airfare down to $0.01, and you simply cover the taxes and fees, which can vary from $15-$23 for domestic flights, to about $100 for international flights.
HERE'S THE CATCH: You have to book last-minute to get the deal.
For international flights, you can book up to 10 days in advance, and for domestic flights, you have to book 24 hours in advance to get the best deal.
I will pick out the flight I want to take in advance, and then book it the day before travel. There is always a chance the flight will be fully booked, but I personally haven't experienced this yet.
2) Get the Frontier Credit Card
There's an annual fee of $99, and it will pay for itself on your first flight.
Card benefits include free seat selection, one free carry-on, and two free checked bags.
Frontier makes its money by nickel-and-diming the add-ons, and unless you can fit everything you need in a "personal item" (it's possible for short trips, and compression packing cubes are the solution), you can easily spend more than you would on an American, Delta, or United flight. The credit card is the workaround.
3) Be Willing to Drive
I like to fly direct as much as possible and minimize my layovers. Frontier's flight paths can sometimes be inconvenient from Indianapolis (my home base), and right now, they don't have direct flights from Indy to Cancun, but Cincinnati does. A 1.5-hour drive, $70 long-term parking fee, and a free airport shuttle later, I'm flying direct (way better than a 7-hour layover in Denver).
4) Get Creative With Flight Paths
My best friend lives in Phoenix, and the flight options via Frontier to Phoenix usually have awful layovers. I've learned that DFW is the best connecting airport to PHX, and I'll get a flight from IND to DFW and a flight from DFW to PHX about an hour later.
WARNING: If your flight is delayed and you miss your connection, the airline is not liable, so chain flights together at your own risk.
5) Save on International Travel
Frontier doesn't fly everywhere, but it can get you to a city that's cheaper to fly out of. I will look for deals on
Going.com and determine the cheapest city to fly out of to get to my destination.
Any tips I missed? Would you try to Go Wild Pass?
