Customers can customize LinkedIn Learning content to best meet the needs of their learning programs. The content filtering feature allows admins to customize learners’ ability to view courses and learning paths.
Important to know
Please review the following frequently-asked questions for admins about the content filtering feature.
Any full admin can filter content within admin settings under Customize > Admin features or directly at www.linkedin.com/learning-admin/content-filtering.
Full admins can filter content across all language libraries by subject, topic, skill, or URL:
- Filter all courses and/or learning paths mapped to a subject, topic, or skill. This will also filter any new content that is published. Download the Taxonomy Guide to learn more about the LinkedIn Learning content hierarchy.
- Filter specific courses and/or learning paths by entering the individual URLs or by uploading a CSV file containing multiple URLs (with one URL per row, all listed in one column).
- The course (and the videos in the course) or the learning path will no longer be recommended to learners in the LinkedIn Learning homepage, search results and type-ahead, AI-powered coaching, learning paths, collections, subject pages, topic pages, showcase pages, role guides, My Career Journey, and My Library.
- Filtered content will also no longer be available to admins in admin search results and type-ahead, content curation, Campaigns, role guide customization, learning path and collection creation, and will be marked as “Retired” in Course Catalog. Filtering content will not alter or delete any admin reporting insights, but filtered content will be displayed as “This content is no longer available” in reporting.
- Filtered content will no longer be visible within an LMS or LXP if the following are true:
- If your integration is using the LinkedIn Learning API or OCN and your LMS/LXP respects the “Retired” flag, content filtering will go into effect with the next sync.
- AICC downloads will only include “Active” content, so filtered content will be excluded when you upload to your LMS/LXP.
- If your integration is using LTI, you will need to select to only download “Active” content before uploading to your LMS/LXP.
- Learners will not be able to complete learning paths and professional certificates that include a filtered course (or video from a filtered course).
- If a learner attempts to view filtered content on their enterprise LinkedIn Learning account through a direct URL, LinkedIn.com, or engagement email, they will see an error message.
- All content that is mapped to it will be filtered. For example, filtering a subject will also filter all the topics mapped to it, all the skills mapped to those topics, and all the courses, learning paths, and live events mapped to those skills. (Download the Taxonomy Guide to learn more about the LinkedIn Learning content hierarchy.) If any new course/learning path/event mapped to a filtered skill goes live, it will be automatically filtered. See FAQ above for more details on what happens to filtered courses and learning paths.
- If a learner attempts to prompt AI-powered coaching or generate a learning plan in My Career Journey around a filtered subject, topic, or skill, they will see an error message. However, please note that these features are powered by AI and mistakes are possible, and this does not apply to the AI-powered role play feature. Role play conversations around filtered subjects, topics, or skills may still occur if prompted by the learner.
- Topic pages, showcase pages, skills, etc. are impacted in the following ways:
- If a subject is filtered: The subject page and associated showcase page (if available) will be removed from the library page and the search type-ahead. Learners who attempt to view the subject page or showcase page using a direct URL will see an error message.
- If a topic is filtered: The topic page will be removed from the library page, subject pages, showcase pages, and the search type-ahead. Learners who attempt to view the topic page using a direct URL will be redirected to the respective library page.
- If a skill is filtered: Learners can’t follow filtered skills from “Manage skills” and filtered skills will be removed from the homepage, subject pages, topic pages, showcase pages, role guides, My Career Journey, and My Library. Admins also won’t be able to select filtered skills when customizing roles. However, please note that skill evaluations mapped to filtered skills will still be available.
Important to know
LinkedIn Learning may still recommend filtered content in the emails types listed below. However if learners attempt to view filtered content, they will see an error message. Admins can choose to turn off the following email types in admin settings.
- Invitation to activate
- Emails to engage learners
- Content recommendations and assignments
Yes. Under the typebar is a table that lists all content that has been filtered by admins in your organization. Admins can do the following from this table:
- View content counts: The content count represents the total number of courses and learning paths associated with the selected filter. However, since a piece of content can belong to multiple filters, the same piece of content may be counted under more than one filter.
- Remove filter: This feature is available under Actions and will remove the filter from the selected course, learning path, subject, topic, or skill. However, since a piece of content can belong to multiple filters, you may need to remove multiple filters before the content is viewable again.
- Download CSV: For a filtered subject, topic, or skill, you can download a CSV file under “Actions” that contains a list of all the course and/or learning path titles for your own records.
- Remove filters in bulk: In your .CSV file, select "Remove filters" and upload the file to LinkedIn Learning.
