We recently wrapped up the second annual Turner Construction Company company-wide Earth Month Garden Contest – an event I’ve come to love for the creativity, fun and teamwork it inspires. This year's submissions were diverse, featuring everything from repurposed building materials to closed loop irrigation systems to bee colonies to BIM/VDC-optimized planting plans. Dozens of entries came in from offices and jobsites across the company and around the world – and I’m thrilled to showcase the winners! The San Diego Airport Terminal 1 project earned first place in the Best Existing Garden category for the monarch butterfly nursery established on-site in 2021. The garden features six raised planting beds and an innovative irrigation system that captures and reuses rainwater from the trailer rooftop. The project gained national recognition through coverage on NPR’s StoryCorps. (https://lnkd.in/eKfvHxT7). The Turner office in Atlanta, GA took the prize for Best Office Garden, featuring three growing zones and regular garden club gatherings, while in in a crowded field, the Turner Vantage VDC 21 team landed the trophy in the Best New Project Garden category. Their Community Garden features reused and reclaimed building materials, a solar irrigation system and a hands-on bee-keeping demonstration area. Congratulations to these outstanding teams, who earned new composters for their sites and the opportunity to support a local nonprofit through a donation in their name! Our Garden Contest is a powerful reflection of Turner’s sustainable culture because it transforms our climate ambitions into action.
