At the Dallas Regional Chamber’s Convergence: AI event, our leaders shared a clear message: AI isn’t replacing engineers, it’s expanding what engineering can deliver. During their keynote, AECOM Chairman and CEO Troy Rudd and Head of AI for Engineering Janne Aas-Jakobsen outlined how AI purpose built for engineering enables teams to evaluate entire systems earlier, faster and with far greater certainty. “Greater certainty doesn’t just lower risk, it unlocks investment and expands what’s possible,” shared Troy. “AI isn’t a story about replacement. It’s a story about expanding what we’re capable of delivering.” With the demand for infrastructure accelerating, the global investment gap is expected to reach $75 trillion by 2040. AI is making engineers and engineering outcomes more valuable, helping unlock the scale the world urgently needs to deliver critical infrastructure. “This isn’t just new technology, it’s a change in how engineering itself happens,” said Janne. “We’re moving from coordinating work to evaluating systems as a whole.” This is what it looks like when technology expands expertise and helps deliver the future of infrastructure. #ConvergenceDallas #ArtificialIntelligence #AIinEngineering #Infrastructure #AECOM

Today’s People Spotlight features Peter O Connor, our Environmental Impact Assessment Lead for Ireland. He has over two decades of experience across the energy, power, minerals and waste sectors throughout Europe. From an early fascination with maps and geography to a career spanning mineral surveying, circular economy projects, and renewable and thermal energy generation, Peter’s journey reflects the interconnected nature of today’s energy challenges. Since joining AECOM, he’s combined deep technical expertise with a passion for mentoring junior staff and supporting projects that contribute to Ireland’s energy transition. One of Peter’s standout projects is the Killroot Power Station in Northern Ireland — a complex transition from coal to gas delivered through the height of the COVID-19 lockdowns. Seeing the project progress from design and consenting through to construction, while energizing junior team members along the way, made it especially rewarding. “Embrace opportunities, stay adaptable and never stop challenging yourself,” Peter says. “The relationships you build early in your career will stay with you for life.” Read more about Peter’s career journey, project highlights and advice in our latest People Spotlight: https://lnkd.in/gUu6HsSA

What happens when the systems we rely on every day are tested by a changing climate? From storms disrupting power networks to heatwaves straining electricity systems, extreme weather is already placing growing pressure on essential infrastructure around the world. At the same time, we’re entering a historic era of growth in the systems that power our economies and communities. Electricity demand is rising rapidly – and around 75 per cent of the infrastructure that will exist by mid-century hasn’t yet been built. So how do we ensure the systems we depend on today – and those we build tomorrow – are ready for a changing climate? In our latest episode of Talking Infrastructure, host Toby Sadler is joined by Marcene Mitchell (WWF), Jane McMillan (SP Energy Networks) and Sally Vivian (AECOM) to explore what it will take to build climate resilience across critical infrastructure systems.
