"This is us getting out of our comfort zone to push the boundaries of technology." The RTX Hybrid-Electric Flight Demonstrator is getting closer to takeoff. The project aims to demonstrate up to 30% improved fuel efficiency for regional aircraft, with a pioneering hybrid-electric propulsion system combining an advanced thermal engine from Pratt & Whitney Canada, a 1-megawatt electric motor from Collins Aerospace and a 200-kWh battery system from H55. The team recently achieved a major milestone, successfully operating the propulsion system and batteries at full power for the first time. Over the next year, we will continue ground testing and begin working with AeroTEC - Aerospace Testing Engineering & Certification Inc. to install hardware on the De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited Dash 8-100 demonstrator aircraft.
