Youth mental health care often starts too late. For many families, the first real entry point into mental health care for a child is the ER — after a crisis has already begun. In my latest Forbes column, I explore why our system still defaults to crisis care — and what mental health leaders and pediatricians can do to help families intervene earlier. A few themes I touch on: • Why many caregivers delay seeking help, often because of guilt or uncertainty • The opportunity for pediatricians to normalize routine mental health screening • Why family-centered care leads to better outcomes for kids If we want different outcomes, we have to change the entry point into care. Over a third of employees say they’re merely surviving rather than thriving at work. 🚨 Our sixth annual independent study of 500 benefits leaders and 7,500 employees across six countries reveals where employees and their families need greater support—and how thoughtful benefit design, paired with supportive workplace practices, can strengthen both individual well-being and organizational performance. The phrase "failure to launch" implies a personal shortcoming—laziness, entitlement, or lack of drive. But that framing misses what’s really happening. Today's young adults are navigating a different world. A growing share of young adults now live with their parents. Traditional milestones like moving out and financial independence are happening later. As a result, more employees are taking on caregiving roles they rarely discuss at work. It’s time for a new approach to care that empowers young adults and the parents who support them. https://bit.ly/4lyMPEy #MentalHealth #WorkplaceWellness #YoungAdults #Parenting #WhyLyra
