We believe that transparency is the key to meaningful healthcare cost reductions. Today we’re publicly releasing the methodology we use to calculate surgical savings for our millions of members. Why are we doing this? Because there’s no consistent standard for how to calculate and compare episodic healthcare costs, and that’s unacceptable. The cost of healthcare is soaring, particularly in categories like specialty care, which have high acuity, high-cost moments. Employers, who provide healthcare for 150 million Americans, are under immense pressure to reduce costs without shifting more financial burden to employees. Our methodology fixes the 7 biggest flaws in traditional claims analysis, so benefits leaders have more accurate insights and can make better decisions. We invite you to review our methodology, share feedback and join us in setting the new standard.

Benefits leaders, let’s talk about some numbers that matter: 📈 99.6% – The 5-year survival rate when breast cancer is caught early. 📉 31.9% – That survival rate when it’s found late. ⏳ 80% – The number of Americans who delay important health screenings. There are real reasons people put off care, from confusion about coverage to lack of time to having no primary care provider. But with the right plan design and communication, employers and funds can help close the gap from late detection to early detection. Early detection of cancer is critical, and there is an opportunity for your benefits strategy to make a real impact. Here are a few tips that could make a difference: 🔸 Give employees extra time off for preventive screenings 🔸 Include Employee Advocates in your benefits communications plan — stories matter 🔸 Cover breast ultrasounds or MRIs for those with dense breast tissue 🔸 Offer incentives for completing vital screenings 🔸 Communicate benefits year-round, not just during Open Enrollment Our latest blog helps break it down and gives expert tips on how employers and funds can help. 🔗 Read the full blog: https://lnkd.in/gKVarBUY

Enjoyed an unbelievable few days at the SEMAFOR World Economy Summit in DC last week. Thanks to Gina Chua for facilitating the discussion on how changes in healthcare benefits are critical to finance the innovation we are seeing in healthcare delivery; if we don’t fix how we pay for healthcare, the amazing advancements in biotech, in therapeutics and from AI more generally, won’t matter. This is particularly the case when healthcare inflation is at record highs. A recent survey of hospital executives revealed 82% expect costs to increase by 15% in the next 180 days, and 90% suggested they will need to pass those costs on to insurers and patients... Specialty Care—surgeries, cancer, and infusions—makes up over 50% of total healthcare spend. These are rare, expensive, and emotionally charged events. And they’re exactly where benefit leaders can make the biggest impact: --1% of people = 1/3 of spend, 5% represent over 60%. Focus there. --The majority of cost growth driven by Specialty Care. That’s where we need better steerage. --For these rare events, in many ways the employer is the real repeat consumer, and we should design benefits accordingly. So what can benefits leaders do? --Steer employees toward high-quality, fairly priced specialists. --Use incentives like waived deductibles to reward smart navigation, and lower the financial burden on the patient. --Partner for scale—no employer is big enough to drive reform alone. At Lantern, we help over 6 million Americans—including employees from Fortune 500s, major unions, academic and government entities—get better outcomes and lower costs when it matters most. The takeaway: We can finance the future of medicine. But only if we start by fixing how care is delivered and paid for today.
