The wild story of how a death metal guitarist became VP of Technology at King (the makers of Candy Crush). Peter Lindgren was 18 when he joined Opeth in Stockholm in 1991. He was supposed to play bass for one show. He ended up switching to guitar and staying for 16 years. For the next decade and a half, he toured the world playing progressive death metal. 18-19 months on the road every year. In 2004, Guitar World ranked him #42 on their list of Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of all time. He co-wrote iconic songs. Played sold-out shows. Living the dream. Then in May 2007, at 34 years old, he announced he was leaving. Burned out. "I've lost the enthusiasm needed to participate in a band that has grown into a world-wide industry." 16 years gone. No backup plan. He went back to school. Got a Master's in Engineering Physics at the Royal Institute of Technology. Then another Master's in Literature at Stockholm University. While his former bandmates toured, he sat in lecture halls. He started doing IT consulting in Stockholm. Starting from zero. Learned to code. Learned systems. Grinded. Eventually became Partner at Netlight, a tech consulting firm. Then King came calling. The makers of Candy Crush. 240 million monthly active users. One of the biggest mobile games in history. They hired him as VP of Technology. From death metal guitarist to VP of Technology. From tour buses to leading tech teams. From Guitar World rankings to shipping code at scale. Tech is the great equalizer. Your background doesn't lock you in. What you can learn and build does. Skills over pedigree.

This week, we wrapped one of our final shoots in our current Koramangala office, a space that has hosted countless conversations, leadership messages, and product stories over the years. 💚 Vivek Ravisankar, our Co-Founder & CEO, has been in Bangalore with us, and this session with him made the transition feel real. A great conversation, a buzzing room, cameras rolling… and as we wrapped, it hit us: The next time we do this, everything will be different. Because in January 2026, we move into HackerRank's brand-new Indiranagar office. And for the first time, we’re building a state-of-the-art content studio with: 🎥 A massive VP screen (the same tech used in modern film production) 💡 Best-in-class lighting 📸 Multi-camera setups 🎚️ Pro-grade audio & monitoring ⚙️ A dedicated space designed to scale how HackerRank tells stories And to bring all of this to life, we’re hiring a Studio Production Manager. What this role actually owns (and why it’s BIG): ❌ This is not a coordinator role. ❌ This is not a “manage vendors” role. ✅ This is a hands-on cinematographer + technical owner role. You will: 🎥 Own the cameras: operate, manage, and record every single shoot 💡 Own lighting: set it up, balance it, shape it 🎚️ Own audio: microphones, levels, clarity, reliability 🖥️ Own the entire studio environment end-to-end 💾 Capture & organize all raw footage with absolute discipline ✂️ Collaborate with external editors to deliver polished final assets 🚫 No assistants. No second shooters. ✔️ You are the one-person production powerhouse running the entire studio If you love being the person who walks into a room and knows exactly where the light should fall, where the camera should sit, how the sound should breathe, and how to make talent feel confident, this role is made for you. What I’d love to hear from you (4 crisp bullets): 1. Why does building and owning a brand-new studio excite you? 2. What’s one production challenge you’ve solved that still makes you proud? 3. What type of studio projects bring out your best work? 4. Why does HackerRank feel like the right next step for you? If this sounds like your kind of playground, please DM me directly. Happy to share the full JD and chat 😀 Big things are coming. And we’d love you to help us build them. ✨

Two hundred-billion dollar AI companies taking completely different paths. ChatGPT is becoming a personal tool. Claude is becoming a work tool. ChatGPT's non-work usage went from 53% to 73% in a year. Work usage dropped 20%. Claude: 50% of usage is software and writing tasks. 77% of API traffic is automation. Their acquisitions tell the story: OpenAI bought Global Illumination (AI design studio), Crossing Minds (personalization), Statsig (experimentation), and io Products (Jony Ive's hardware startup). They signed content deals with 160+ publishers to feed consumer products. Anthropic bought Bun (JS runtime for Claude Code) and Humanloop (prompt tooling). They partnered with AWS, Google Cloud, Deloitte, Cognizant, and Salesforce. Their launches show the same split: OpenAI's DevDay: shopping in ChatGPT, https://lnkd.in/gEvZvVQb integrations, Sora, Pulse. 80% of revenue from consumer subscriptions. Anthropic: Claude Code ecosystem, Agent Skills, API features. Claude Code generating over $1B in run-rate revenue. 75% revenue from enterprise API. Two different strategies: Anthropic is an infrastructure company. They build models, others build on top. They targeted developers first because developers drive enterprise adoption and give faster feedback than enterprises. OpenAI wants to be the application company. Own the consumer relationship directly. Build everything in-house: shopping, video generation, image generation. API distribution isn't the core business. With Opus 4.5's reception, developers are choosing Claude for work. OpenAI is winning consumers. Both bets are working.

Cluely. InterviewCoder. UltraCode. There are hundreds of invisible tools quietly helping people "cheat" in the hiring process We built the HackerRank App to block this. Now, I know what you may be thinking as a developer: how do I trust the app? We are very transparent about the permissions and show what we do every step of the way. The app blocks plagiarism tools, screen sharing, tab switching, external apps, and more, all while still giving developers an insanely great experience. Companies can also turn on an AI assistant directly inside the test, so candidates can use AI in a transparent way instead of hiding behind external tools. "Cheating" might feel cool. But losing a job to someone who only got that because they played unfairly is not. Link below to learn more.
