Every spring, fund managers get the same question from LPs: "When will my K-1 be ready?" And the honest answer is usually: later than everyone would like. What's actually causing the delay isn't effort, it's architecture. When fund admin and tax preparation live in separate systems, data has to be exported, reviewed, reconciled, and re-entered before preparation even begins. Nothing runs in parallel. The handoff is the bottleneck. We wrote about why this keeps happening and what a structural fix actually looks like. Link in the first comment. But first, curious where the friction actually hits for your fund:

Fund of Funds do something unique: They're GPs managing funds while also being LPs invested in others. That's double the responsibility but with fragmented systems. We’ve been actively listening to our design partners about this. They’re telling us their biggest pains and we’re building fast to solve those. We prototype fast and iterate fast because delivering what our customers need in a timely manner is core to our building philosophy. We’re delivering one unified platform for both your GP and LP responsibilities. No more identity crisis. Just one platform, real visibility, and automation that can move as quickly as you need. Watch John Hoffman explain how we got here. #FundOfFunds #PrivateCapital #FundAdmin #PrivateEquity

Just wrapped three days at AltsLA. Still riding the Spire 73 high. On our panel Wednesday, we talked about operational alpha, highlighting that those firms that can optimize fund and investment operations will set themselves apart in today’s data-driven markets. The unglamorous reality of private capital life revolves around disjointed workflows. GPs drowning in data but starving for insight. Allocators trying to make investment decisions while their ops team manually reconciles spreadsheets from last quarter. It’s the friction everyone feels but struggles to solve. Here's what stuck with us: The winners in 2026 and beyond will be those who've automated the operational pain so their teams can focus on what actually matters: sourcing deals, managing risk, and making smarter investment decisions. Between the keynotes on total portfolio analysis, optimizing operational systems, and implementing AI internally, one thing is crystal clear: allocators aren't just chasing returns. They're chasing clarity. Thanks to everyone who joined us at the dinner, sat in on the panels, and spent time thinking through what's next in alternatives. #AltInvesting #PrivateCapital #AltsLA #FundofFunds #privateequity #venturecapital Markets Group

Gaming startups: contracting. Consumer startups: flatlined. Hardware startups: still hiring. The hiring market isn't one market anymore. At Transform 2026 this week, Ashley (Howard) Neville broke down which sectors are growing, which are holding steady, and which are in freefall. Net headcount just dropped below flat for the first time since March 2024 — and the story is in the details. #StartupHiring #PrivateMarkets #Transform2026

Mary Kate Pennington didn't follow the traditional VC playbook, and that's exactly why she's essential to the funds she serves. After 16 years navigating alternative assets from PwC's audit rooms to PE to VC, she realized the real problem: early-stage firms are lean, underfunded in operations, and drowning in the unsexy-but-critical work that no one wanted to do. So three years ago, she started her own practice as an outsourced CFO to funds like Motley Fool Ventures, Urban Innovation Fund, and INITIATE Ventures. What makes her different? Two things. First, she sees VC clearly. The industry isn't as rigid, male-dominated, or intimidating as the old finance stereotypes suggest. Two of her three current clients are led entirely by female GPs. She built her practice intentionally around women-led firms. Not because it's trendy, but because she believes in it. Second, she leads with character. Her philosophy: hire collaborators and learners, not just the smartest people in the room. It's simple advice that most of the industry ignores. We sat down with Mary-Kate to talk about: > How she carved her own path into VC (spoiler: you don't need investment banking credentials) > What a day in the life of an outsourced CFO actually looks like > The misconceptions keeping women out of the industry Full interview on the Carta blog. #VentureCapital #Operations #WomenInVenture #FinanceLeadership

Private capital skipped Web 2.0. It can’t afford to skip AI. The operational and strategic leverage AI creates is too big to ignore. Firms that re‑architect around it will run smarter and be better stewards of capital. I’ve talked with a lot of GPs and CFOs who feel the pressure but don’t know where to start. That’s why we’re launching Carta Change Agents, a team to help private capital firms rethink their daily operations for an AI‑native future. They’ll come onsite and map how your team works today across fund admin, portfolio monitoring, IR, valuations, and treasury. Then help you design and deploy your AI operating model on the Carta + Claude stack. Change is hard, but it doesn’t have to be. We’re starting with a small group of firms. If you’re interested, reach out at hward@carta.com.

Hong Kong, we’re officially here 🇭🇰 Last night, we celebrated Carta’s launch in Hong Kong with customers, partners, and friends from across the ecosystem. For years, we’ve seen the Hong Kong–Singapore corridor become one of Asia’s key routes for private capital. Our presence here is about supporting that momentum—bringing local expertise and the infrastructure GPs and LPs need to operate with clarity and confidence. Nicole Baer, our Chief Marketing Officer, and Bhavik Vashi, Managing Director for Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, kicked things off with a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by a great evening of conversations on where private markets are headed. If you’re a GP, LP, or founder building in Hong Kong—we’d love to connect. Thanks to everyone who joined us to mark the moment. Every quarter, Fund of Funds teams track and pull down documents from multiple different sources. Then there’s manual data entry and spreadsheets. The days and weeks start to add up. It's one of the worst parts of the job. Not because it's hard, but because it's *endless*. We built a Fund of Funds solution to eliminate that. One platform. AI-powered data extraction. Real-time look-through into underlying assets. Watch John Hoffman 🏗️, lead product manager for Fund of Funds, explain why this matters. Then go here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gyfPWryp #FundOfFunds #PrivateCapital #FundAdmin #PrivateEquity

Running a fund of funds means being two things at once: LP to your portfolio funds and GP to your own investors. Most software is built for one side of that equation. So fund of funds managers end up piecing together systems — one for fund administration, one for LP reporting, one for portfolio analytics — and manually bridging the gaps between them. That changes today. We're launching a solution purpose-built for fund of funds: the first set of capabilities to handle the full complexity of managing funds within funds. It brings together AI-powered document automation, powerful look-through analysis, and unified LP + GP workflows in a single ecosystem.
