Yesterday I went on a “date” with Miranda Priestly. A line from *The Devil Wears Prada 2* has been stuck in my head: “You wanted this job. The responsibility is yours.” In tech, I often see the same pattern: new hires join a team expecting constant guidance, step-by-step instructions, and someone to validate every move. But reality is a bit different. Asking for help is normal. Questions are normal. What’s not effective is taking a passive position and waiting to be “hand-held.” Strong specialists stand out not because they know everything, but because they: — actively look for answers — try, fail, and iterate — come not just with questions, but with possible solutions In a good team, you will get support. But first, you have to try to help yourself.

Communication starts to fray, senior judgment gets spread thinner, and delivery motion outpaces real customer impact. The result is familiar, more activity, less outcome. I don't post very often (honestly, it's about as rare as a lightning strike), but right now I feel like I have to share a few thoughts that have been sitting with me for a while. And yes… this is another post about the new world of AI, but from a slightly different angle. So here we go. First of all, I'm like everyone else, spending a ton of time with my new friends: Claude, Gemini, MCPs, skills, MD files, and the rest of the gang. I use AI daily (actually, hourly), I rely on it, build with it, get more efficient with it, and mostly can't understand how I ever lived without it. And still… Many times, I've built things (or looked at things others built) that look absolutely amazing. Impressive docs, "clean" code, precise outputs, aesthetic, and convincing. Messages I write are well-structured and detailed. Suddenly, I can read long, exhausting articles and emails, obviously after my new friend summarizes everything for me. And so on. But… Sometimes, when you dive in and actually analyze the output, something there just isn't quite right… and sometimes it's just straight-up embarrassing. Sometimes it lacks logic. Sometimes it's close to the essence, but misses the point. Sometimes it's just inaccurate. Sometimes it's just a lot of unnecessary pieces. But it's always wrapped in a very nice package, impressive, full of big words. Looks like a million bucks. And that's exactly the point, AI is great at producing outputs that look great. Often better than what I'd produce myself, and definitely in less time. We shall not forget that "Looks good" ≠ "Is correct" So, where does this hit us? Everywhere we let our "new friends" in. For me, it showed up in a PR I pushed out with great satisfaction in no time, only to have it come right back when it turned out it didn't exactly work. In building a roadmap for next year, it looked amazing, but was far from perfect. In building a system that started great… and got messy over time. And for those who like to jump straight to the bottom line: There's no substitute for: - A human eye. - Critical human thinking. - Professional personal accountability. AI is an incredible force multiplier. But it's not a substitute for understanding. And understanding, that's us. The future is still human.

Is it just me, or does this latest 'revolution' feel a lot like 'data democritization' of the early 00's? It's like we've provided everyone with a fleet of Ferrari's, gave them the keys, but then only taught them how to turn them on, put them in drive, and hit the accelerator. I'm all for empowerment, but if history's taught us anything, it's that there are few/no shortcuts. Going fast in circles isn't going to get you anywhere.

Of all the low cost bare metal or cloud offerings, Hetzner seems to offer the best value for money, decent customer support and good ancillary offerings. Their server auctions give you bare metals at throw away price (if you don’t want great reliability - mostly for dev work, experiments or as a playground) and their cloud offers pretty decent stability (maybe not as good as AWS/Azure/GCP but at par with many other private cloud providers). I’ve tried OVHcloud in the past, and Hetzner beats them in most areas.

A few years ago we taught LLMs to answer. Now agents must act inside our systems. Are they a strategic necessity or a temporary bridge? My view: necessity, but only when treated as an integrated service rather than a demo. What consistently works in production: • governed access to sensitive data and clear purpose limits • event-driven orchestration with retries and SLAs • least-privilege actions with full audit trails Healthcare example: an ambient scribe connected to the EHR reduces administrative load and eases burnout because notes flow from microphone to policy layer to EHR with human verification. Fintech example: an agent on the event bus monitors orders and positions and triggers compliance before clearing, not in end-of-day reports. Analyst consensus shows momentum, yet many agent initiatives are canceled when integration and measurable value are weak. Integration beats novelty. Which patterns have worked best for you: event bus, BPMN-style orchestration, or a tool-former stack tied to domain APIs?
