We’ve all been there, staring at a broken bike chain, a strange plant, or a blank corner of a room, not sure about exactly what to type. Search Live removes that barrier. Now, within the Search app, you can use your camera’s view to give the conversation context, so you can just talk through what’s right in front of you, to get the answers you are looking for. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 For years, we’ve optimised for a world where consumers type a keyword and land on a site. But that journey is evolving. Imagine someone standing on their balcony, looking at a bare corner. Instead of scrolling through static images for "small balcony decor ideas," they point their camera and ask: "𝘚𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘮𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘣𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘦𝘵. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴?" At that moment, the goal for marketers isn't just to get your product seen, it's to be helpful. 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿: ➡️ 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗲𝘆𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱: When a search starts with a live video feed, "keywords" are only one part of the story. Are your visual assets ready for "conversational search"? How does your product data feed into a visual-first, AI-driven dialogue? ➡️ 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁. If your brand acted as a "co-pilot" for a customer’s DIY project or home makeover, what expert advice would it offer to meet their needs? If you’re testing Search Live on your own projects, I’d love to hear what you’re discovering.

Eileen Mannion shared thisAs part of my job, I’ve had the privilege of being involved with many projects that extend far beyond our office walls. Platform 37, Google’s new landmark King’s Cross building, is one of those projects that has been a joy to be part of. Working alongside Thomas Heatherwick , Stuart Wood Zoe Stern, Amy Brown, and our real estate team, my team and I have focused on how this space can also serve the local community and add something meaningful to the area. Thinking back to our "Topping Out" ceremony with local residents, marking the moment the building hit its highest point, it was such a great reminder of how much a physical space can mean to a neighbourhood. So we are really excited to open The AI Exchange later this year. It’s a public space where anyone can drop in to learn about AI through free exhibitions and events. And if you are curious about the building name, it’s a nod to our King’s Cross neighbours and a quiet tribute to “Move 37”. For those who remember the 2016 AlphaGo match, that move was so unconventional it was initially seen as a mistake, until it changed the game. It feels like a fitting symbol for the kind of responsible innovation we aim to continue developing here. This summer, our teams will begin moving in. I’m really looking forward to seeing our researchers, engineers, and ethicists finally call Platform 37 home, and to shape the The AI Exchange programme with my team and our local community partners.

Today, Lyria 3 is launching in the Gemini app. Just as Nano Banana revolutionised image generation and Veo transformed video, Lyria 3 is making high-quality, custom audio creation incredibly simple. Think of it as a new creative instrument that lets you turn a text prompt or photo into a high-quality, 30-second track. For marketing teams, this is a game-changer for rapid prototyping. Storyboard Scoring: Need a specific genre or mood for a video mockup? Describe it, and generate instrumental audio on the fly. Zero endless scrolling through stock libraries required. Social Concepting: Turn any quick topic into a 30-second track, complete with custom cover art. It allows you to share a complete vision with stakeholders and get alignment before committing budget to a full sonic branding rollout. The Pitch Deck Soundtrack: If your team has ever spent way too much time scouring audio libraries just to find a placeholder track that conveys the right vibe for a campaign pitch, those days are officially over. Upload your campaign PDF or slide deck, and let Gemini compose a track with lyrics that perfectly matches the content. Learn more about making music with Lyria 3 on our blog - link in the comment section.

Eileen Mannion reposted thisWe’re looking for two new creative builders to join the Creative Lab in London📍 The Creative Lab is a small group of creative people at Google who help connect people to the magic of Google technology and the spirit of the builders who create it. The Lab has been involved with many of Google’s major efforts, including Android, Chrome, the self-driving car, Google Glass, Project Loon, and more recently helping bring Google responsibly into the AI era with Google Gemini and alongside our partners at Google Deepmind. Now we’re looking for two specific shapes of people to help us define the next era of Google and architect the relationship between frontier technology and human trust: ↳ The Progressive Motion Designer: You aren't just an animator; you’re a researcher. You’re deep in the trenches experimenting with ComfyUI, scripting, and inventing entirely new workflows. We deeply value the 'hand of the maker' and need designers who can blend the raw, tactile feel of human craft with the frontier capabilities of generative systems. You’re ready to own outcomes and define how the future moves. ↳ The AI Creative: You’re a multidisciplinary creative who thinks in words, pictures, motion, and sound. You’re as comfortable designing a poster as you are concepting how a new piece of technology lives in the world. You spot design puzzles, big and small, and figure out how to solve them using new tools. You understand that in an era of infinite generation, the most valuable currency is truth. You don’t just design interfaces; you design for transparency, helping users understand the 'why' behind the technology so they can rely on it in high-stakes moments. While the world is a better place for its specialists (a dentist who has spent 30 years focused on dentistry is a great thing!), this moment in time at Creative Lab demands something different. These roles are suited to people who not only have multiple interests, but a body of work that reflects different types of output. Because the tools we use to create are changing daily, these roles are for people who run toward the unknown. You might be deep-diving into robotics one month, fighting misinformation the following one and prototyping for the future of the Gemini app the next. In this new landscape, Filmmakers strategise, Technologists design, and Motion Designers write code. We love deep expertise, but value flexibility even more because building trustworthy technology today requires a panoramic view. If you are a creative builder who is culturally curious, prioritises integrity, technical rigor, and the human impact of your work, we want to hear from you 👉 Motion Designer: https://lnkd.in/e9gjbszH 👉 AI Creative: https://lnkd.in/eMaH46Mn

Eileen Mannion shared thisA moment to step back and reflect on the bigger picture. I always love our annual Year in Search - it’s a great way of revisiting the themes, trends and questions that defined us over the last 12 months. It’s also a fascinating insight into how the way people search is changing, with AI making it possible to ask questions in more conversational ways. Eileen Mannion shared thisFor all you retail marketers, here’s your chance to make this a December to remember for your customers. Just in time for the festive season, virtual apparel try on has landed in the UK 👚 We all know the struggle – when you’re shopping online, it’s tough to envision how a blazer, dress, or pair of jeans will look on you. So you study the size guides, you take the leap and even splurge on express shipping, only to find that your new clothes don’t fit or suit you at all. Cue the joys of online returns. Now, we’ve introduced an incredible way for UK shoppers to try on garments virtually, before purchasing – even shoes! Just upload a photo of yourself to try before you buy and (literally) picture yourself in your new fit. This new feature is powered by our custom AI model for fashion, which can understand how different materials fold, stretch and drape on different body shapes. To give it a go, look for the ‘Try it on’ icon on apparel product listings across Google. ‘Tis the season to make your shopping experience even more personal 👗🎄 Big thanks to our creative team for this fun Santa film!

Eileen Mannion shared thisAlthough our Gemini campaign with Movember has come to an end, the impact will last far beyond this month. With your help, we raised an incredible £1 million for men’s health. 🙌 In our campaign, we challenged people to try out a moustache before growing one, with a bit of help from Gemini, and post it on social media to raise funds for Movember. Top talent like Jack Grealish, Sir Mo Farah, and Lewis Capaldi got involved and grew out their moustaches, and we loved getting support from our brilliant ‘Mo-tivators’ Cara Delevingne, Abbey Clancy, Laura Whitmore and other iconic women. Have a look at the highlights below! A huge thank you to our trusted partners at Movember, Michelle Terry, Natalie Davey, Alex Caine, Katrina Shaw, and everyone who helped to bring this campaign to life.Eileen Mannion shared thisOur #Gen_a_MO challenge is coming to end and what a month it’s been. Thanks to all the amazing Mo’s you’ve made on Gemini, you’ve raised an incredible £1M from GoogleUK! You all jumped at the chance to try some 🥸s on before growing them for real and we saw some absolute beauties. And of course to our Mo Sisters for showing your support in a whole new way this year ❤️❤️❤️. That £1M means creating life-changing support for over 10,000 more men next year. And to that we say a massive thank you. And see you all next year. Ad.

Our recent work for Google perfectly demonstrates the power of WPP Open: using Google Pixel, WPP Open and AI personas, we analysed millennial conversations across social media to uncover a shift toward romanticising everyday life and reframing mundane moments as cinematic. Guided by this insight, our brand agent recommended Pixel’s Camera Coach feature to help users take control of their story. Our specialised agents then enabled our workflow to move from social listening to creative concepts – with an actionable brief in just one hour. Using Google’s advanced AI models within WPP Open, campaign assets were approved, personalised and live within 24 hours. Delivering a 3% increase in brand uplift, this demonstrates a new marketing flywheel where insight, creativity and production move at the speed of culture. But I would never have ruled it out 🔎 🚀 Google’s brilliant researchers and product leaders have always taken the long view to evolving Search with every new breakthrough. And here we are today, with the global and EMEA launch of Search Live: a way of searching using your voice to ask questions and your camera to give visual context, with instant audio responses (plus content and links from the web on your screen). It’s made possible by our latest AI model (Gemini 3.1 Flash Live), which was built to support the rhythm and speed that you need for natural conversation. Eileen Mannion liked thisEileen Mannion liked thisWhen we launched the Google Pixel 10 last year through our "Ask More" platform, our intention wasn't just to sell a device - it was a call to action for consumers to start demanding a better relationship with the technology we use every day. Today, I’m excited to share the next chapter of that journey. We’re building on the switcher stories established by Stephen Curry, Alex Cooper, Sol Campbell, and Oscar Piastri, but this time, we’re digging deeper into the "why" behind the switch. Our new spot, “Moving On,” taps into a universal human truth: the anatomy of a breakup. 💔 We’ve all been there - in a relationship that’s effectively dead, but held together by the "irrational attachment" of the familiar. The insight driving this work is that specific, quiet moment of realization where you start to flirt with the possibility of something better. You stop looking at what you have and start imagining what you could have. Then, finally, you find the courage to jump. This film captures that shift - when the rose-colored glasses come off and you realize you’ve outgrown what’s in your hand. It’s about the relief that comes from choosing a partner (or a phone) that actually meets your needs. A massive thank you to the incredible team who brought these chapters to life. I’m so proud of how this work mirrors the irrational ties we all carry, and the freedom of finally letting them go. We all deserve more ... so I suggest starting with a #GooglePixel. It’s the phone you’ve always deserved. 😉 ❤️ Stay tuned ... we’re just getting started! #AskMore #Google

AI may be making things faster and easier, but we also need to make the case for friction. It was a pleasure to speak to Suhair Khan for this week's edition of Chief Word Officer. She helped me zoom out and see the debate around AI in the broader context of creativity. A few highlights from our conversation: 🎨 Beyond just AI, society doesn't value artists. We focus on the issue of copyrighted works being used to train AI, but forget a bigger problem: society in general does not value artists or creative work. 🔬Art as tech R&D. Creative institutions and artists are using art to explore and develop new frameworks for AI. Tech companies need to open themselves up to recognizing and integrating these efforts as legitimate R&D. Read our full conversation at the link in the comments.

An AI Growth Zone built around power, land, grid access and production infrastructure, not just research headlines. That matters, because the real bottleneck in AI isn’t with models. It’s where AI can run reliably, securely, and at scale on real data. This site won’t win the AI race on its own for the UK. But, it’s a sensible foundation if the UK wants to stay competitive and bring Scotland into the conversation. The UK AI sector is already the largest in Europe, raising £6 billion in 2025, which is an 80% increase from 2024. Infrastructure first. Everything else follows. 5 essentials when A/B testing, from Thomson Reuters' Elaine Piniat (who's speaking at our London Festival this summer!) and Judith Langowski > Focus on your goal Every newsletter should serve a purpose, whether that is to drive revenue (ads or subscriptions), traffic, loyalty/retention, etc. Identify the result(s) that you’re trying to achieve and focus your a/b testing efforts on that. > Sell your idea and build on the results Some ideas are more involved and require significant changes or additional resources. You need to justify the change and work. That’s where a/b testing comes in. It’s less of a commitment and a good opportunity to show if the change is worth it. > Keep it simple Ideas don’t have to be extravagant to matter. The smallest change can move the needle, and a series of simple a/b tests can have lasting impact. > Learn from your peers The best ideas come from our peers. It’s important that the media industry works together by sharing best practices and learnings. > Listen to your readers For the relaunch of our flagship newsletter, the Daily Briefing, we had an iterative process that involved prototype-building, surveying the audience, and reflecting regularly whether the changes were successful. Now, two years since we relaunched, it remains one of our most successful newsletters, with consistently high open and click rates. Full article on The Audiencers: https://lnkd.in/e3d2nae8 And don't forget to reserve your spot for our London Festival to catch Elaine IRL! https://lnkd.in/e9h7qwWD
