What could the future of live music look like? 🎸🌐 Imagine a band spread across four different locations performing live, all connected by low-latency audio, tracked by motion capture, and rendered in real-time using Unreal Engine. In our latest landmark tech trial at CoSTAR Live Lab, we partnered with Yorkshire singer-songwriter Marnie Glum, the University of York, XR Stories and XR Network+, and AudioLab York to do exactly that. Using low-latency network audio, Vicon motion capture, and Unreal Engine, we: 🌐 Rendered the band in a shared virtual environment (a digital replica of BBC Maida Vale Studios) 📡 Streamed them to a live audience at Production Park 🔊 Mixed the performance using spatial audio techniques directly through Live Lab's bespoke L-Acoustics L-ISA system 💗 Connected the crowd to heart rate sensors to test how audiences physically and emotionally respond to immersive, spatial audio experiences! Check out the 6-minute mini-doc below to see how we pulled off this networked musical performance 👇
