CoSTAR Live Lab's Intelligent Venues call is now live! 📣 Part of CoSTAR’s Prototypes & Pilots programme, this call focuses on one of the most transformative frontiers in live performance, broadcast, and immersive experience: the rise of the Intelligent Venue. These are adaptive, data-driven environments that sense, interpret, and react in real time, blending spatial audio, lighting, visuals, and interaction design to create truly responsive live experiences. Applicants can apply for between £20,000 and £50,000 to prototype, test, and showcase technology focused on Intelligent Venues. In addition to cash grants, applicants can apply for up to 20 days of dedicated access to our R&D infrastructure and technical expertise at Production Park. This call has a total budget of £100,000 and will award between two and five UK-based projects. Applications must come from consortia led by a UK-based organisation. Following on from a really inspiring event last Saturday at Kilmartin Museum, I'm sharing this video about Scotland's Rock Art Project, again. We were very lucky to be asked to feature the UK Research and Innovation new series Future Makers and have been included in their latest newsletter, hence the reminder! This 5 year project was funded by the AHRC and involved more than 100 volunteers. Together we recorded 1600 of the 3000 prehistoric rock art panels across Scotland - thank you COVID, we could have done more without you! The amount of data generated was unprecedented and we were able to research these carvings in great detail. It was a real pleasure and so much fun to record this video, produced by the lovely crew of Suited & Booted Originals | B Corp I may be enjoying being in front of the cameras, for a change, as I've recorded a few clips for a project with Wessex Archaeology since then! 😅 We are now developing a new project to safeguard and conserve rock art more effectively, particularly in the planning system, and I am so grateful for everyone's support and enthusiasm! We are seeking insights from researchers, practitioners and stakeholders across academia, communities, the third sector, industry and policy to help inform AHRC’s future strategic thinking. Your responses will help ensure this reflects the full breadth, diversity and societal value of work in this field. Harmful gambling has a huge impact on the UK, not only on the healthcare and criminal justice systems, but also on the economy, costing around £1.4 billion a year. It can also have serious personal impacts, such as depression and suicide. That’s why we’re proud to be launching the UK’s largest independent gambling harms research centre through the Government’s Gambling Levy, to direct world-leading research on how to tackle and prevent gambling harms. The centre, led by University of Glasgow, The University of Sheffield, Swansea University / Prifysgol Abertawe, and King's College London, will work with government, health bodies, charities, people with lived experience of gambling, and the wider research community to generate and apply independent, evidence-led research.
