Energy Transition Value
About us
We regulate and influence the oil and gas, offshore hydrogen and carbon storage industries. We help drive North Sea energy transition, realising the significant potential of the UK Continental Shelf as a critical energy and carbon abatement resource. We hold industry to account on halving upstream emissions by 2030. We work with government, industry and other regulators to accelerate the move to net zero while meeting the UK’s energy demand and security. We perform an effective net zero test and will not approve developments unless they pass it. We aim to be a value creator in everything we do, encouraging and enabling economic benefit and job creation across the UK. We drive greater efficiency through inclusive leadership, data, analysis, stewardship and the use of our powers.

“There is more that unites than divides us, as an industry. We all want to see decommissioning being delivered cost efficiently. There are challenges and complexities, but given the skills and passion in this audience, I think we’re in a good position to overcome them,” Pauline Innes said during a lively panel debate at the Offshore Decommissioning Conference today. During the session - which also featured Andrew McCallum, Valerie Allan, David Wilson, John Underhill and Teresa Munro - Pauline discussed the NSTA’s dual role in managing the oil and gas industry’s energy legacy, making sure critical infrastructure is preserved for reuse and repurposing and, where there is no viable alternative, working with industry to bring about timely and cost-effective decommissioning. This requires a mix of regulatory action to enforce rules, but also collaboration and influence. We’re intent on using our powers to encourage operators to meet their regulatory obligations on well decommission and anchor the supply chain in the UK. Data can also play an important role – and operators are using our digital tools to provide visibility of schedules and upcoming contracting opportunities. In closing, Pauline said: “The passion that was on show during this discussion comes from a good place and wanting to do the right thing. If we hold onto that passion, we will make progress and meet expectations.” 👉 Find out more about our approach to decom: https://lnkd.in/eEHRSGgF #DecomConf25 #decommissioning Offshore Energies UK, Louise Edwards

Join our board as a non-executive director for an exciting chance to shape both the NSTA and the energy industry at large. Non-executive directors play an important role at the NSTA, providing oversight and guidance, supporting and challenging board colleagues and our executive team, and promoting the highest standards of corporate governance. We’re keen to speak to people from different backgrounds and with a range of experience for these two vacancies. The roles could event suit those who are hoping to get their first taste of board-level duties. Taking a fresh, forensic look at existing wells can quickly unlock low-cost barrels, extend field life and support the UK’s energy transition, Ross Cygan-Taylor said in his keynote at the ICoTA Europe (Intervention & Coiled Tubing Association) Well Intervention Conference today. It’s a theory that’s being put to the test. Ross and colleagues have been working closely with eight operators to identify shut-in wells that could be reopened, coming up with a list of 200 candidates. Those operators have already brought more than 50 back online, contributing more than 8 million barrels. Ross said he was keen to see operators bring as many of the remaining wells back into play as possible. He also made the case for companies to work collaboratively and consider joining forces on subsea well intervention campaigns. He said: “Let’s move beyond individual work scopes. Let’s share data, align schedules, and innovate together. Let’s challenge the status quo – not just in technology, but in how we work as an industry. Because the potential is out there. We’ve seen it. We’ve measured it. And now, we need to act on it.” Ross and colleague Rory Cooke will be on the NSTA stand today and tomorrow to give people a tour of our latest Wells Insights Report, with the aid of an interactive screen. ➡️ You can also check out the report here: https://lnkd.in/ek_UjHUT SPE Aberdeen, Mearns & Gill, Kellie Karimi (MBA) (CEng MEI), Alfredo J.
