The Budget announced an average of £150 off the costs of people’s energy bills. This support comes on top of the £150 off energy bills that we are providing for around 6 million families under the Warm Home Discount this winter, and funding for home energy efficiency upgrades. Delivering on our mission to make energy bills more affordable for households across the country and driving forward our clean power mission to make electricity cheaper for households and industry.

Our plan for the future of the North Sea delivers on our commitments to manage existing oil and gas fields for their lifespan, and not to issue new licences to explore new fields. We will also introduce new Transitional Energy Certificates which will enable some oil and gas production near to existing fields. This is as long as this additional production does not require new exploration, is already part of or links back to existing fields and is necessary for a managed, orderly and prosperous transition. We will also establish the North Sea Jobs Service - a national employment programme offering tailored end-to-end support for those seeking new opportunities across our industrial strategy sectors, including clean energy. We are proud to have attended this year’s #COP30 in Brazil, standing alongside global partners, driving action on clean energy, finance, and more. We know that working with other countries to tackle the climate crisis is the only way to protect our home and way of life. While the conference itself has now drawn to a close, the UK will continue leading the way towards clean energy and climate action.

An independent expert taskforce published its report today into nuclear power with a clear path forward and 47 recommendations to help unlock a golden age of British nuclear.  Their assessments indicate that the reforms could save billions in decommissioning costs alone, help make delivery faster and lead to reduced energy costs for consumers.    Chair John Fingleton calls it "a once in a generation opportunity" to deliver nuclear capacity "safely, quickly, and affordably." ⚛️♻️ ➡️🏥 Turning yesterday's energy into tomorrow's cancer treatments We're excited to share the groundbreaking news that along with Medicines Discovery Catapult, thanks to £9.9m from Innovate UK and a further £8.9m from industry, we are leading a project that's giving used nuclear fuel a remarkable second life as precision cancer medicines. Here's how the science works in a nutshell:   🏠 Our scientists at UKNNL know how to harvest something called lead-212 from recycled nuclear fuel that's already powered homes across the UK. 💧 The amount we extract? Picture a single drop of water in an Olympic-sized swimming pool. From a tiny sample equivalent to that, we take an even smaller amount of lead-212 that could potentially treat thousands of cancer patients. 🔬 Scientists at MDC can then develop the lead-212 for use in medicine to precision-target and destroy cancer cells with minimal damage to healthy tissue. For people facing hard-to-treat cancers, this could be life-changing. This project is all about proving we can create an evergreen supply of lead-212 in the UK. It will help develop the foundations needed to support clinical trials and bring these treatments to patients. We're bringing together brilliant minds from across the sector to make this happen: Cyclife Aquila Nuclear, PentaBind, Iksuda Therapeutics, Seda Pharmaceutical Development & Clinical Manufacturing Services and entX Limited are all part of the consortium, each bringing unique expertise to build the complete ecosystem needed to get these treatments to patients. This is British science at its absolute best.
