Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) has condemned the government’s decision in today’s Budget to reject replacement of the Energy Profits Levy (EPL) in 2026 – a move that will cost tens of thousands of jobs, cripple investment, and undermine Scotland and the UK’s energy security. OEUK will now meet its 450 member companies for urgent talks – including operators, contractors, and supply chain firms working across oil and gas, wind, hydrogen and carbon capture projects – all critical to the UK’s energy future. Together they support the livelihoods of over 200,000 people whose jobs now face growing risk as Britain turns to imported energy to meet demand. OEUK is also seeking an immediate meeting with the Chancellor to explore every option to reverse this policy and prevent further economic and industrial damage. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eeq2eneD

Today is Budget Day - and the UK’s energy future hangs in the balance as we await the Chancellor’s statement. Offshore Energies UK, representing 450 companies and 200,000 jobs, has set out a clear, pragmatic proposal to government: reform the Energy Profits Levy now, unlock investment, and power a just transition for the UK. Here’s what’s at stake: ➡️ Growth: £137 billion in added value to the UK economy by 2050 ➡️ Jobs: Safeguarding 160,000 jobs and creating 23,000 more by 2030 ➡️ Security: £40 billion in new investment to reduce reliance on imports and strengthen energy security ➡️Climate: Halving production emissions by 2030, cutting by 90% by 2040, and accelerating renewables, hydrogen, and carbon capture ➡️ Communities: Supporting industrial hubs and supply chains across the UK, from Aberdeen to Teesside and beyond But the clock is ticking. Without urgent reform, we risk losing 1,000 jobs every month and seeing our world-class supply chain move overseas. The public overwhelmingly supports a balanced approach - backing homegrown oil, gas, and renewables to secure our energy and economic future. Today’s Budget is a chance to choose growth, security, and a sustainable future for every UK community.

Behind every policy are real people and communities. Without urgent action, 80,000 UK energy jobs could be lost in five years. From Aberdeen to Teesside, the Humber to East Anglia, these are the jobs that power our economy. A recent OEUK survey found: ➡️ 55% of UK energy companies have cut staff in the past year ➡️ 45% expect further cuts if the policy environment doesn’t change Let’s choose growth, not decline. Let’s support the people and skills that will deliver the UK’s energy future. #Budget25
