With the consultation on the Department for Education’s Schools White Paper now closed, we’re at a pivotal moment for the future of #SENDReform. The Educational Policy Institute's research, commissioned by the BPS, lays bare the reality families face: access to Educational Psychologists is still determined by postcode, not need. And with a national shortage of Educational Psychologists, the system is under immense strain. The government’s proposed Experts at Hand service is a positive step, but it can only succeed if we have the workforce to deliver it. Right now, recruitment and retention challenges threaten to undermine the very support children rely on. We’re urging the government to take decisive action to strengthen the educational psychology workforce and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
