Outdoor spaces have the power to immerse the senses in ways indoor ones simply can't. Dr Sue Wilbraham's research uncovers the liberation that can be found in open water, from increased mobility and freedom from aches and pains, to resilience, body confidence, and a sense of community that stays with you long after you've dried off. 🎤 Finding Your Voice in Psychology: Writing, Publishing, and Making an Impact as a Student Today, I had the privilege of delivering a session on Finding Your Voice in Psychology and discussing how students can engage with writing, publishing, research, and professional involvement throughout their studies. What was originally planned as a 25-minute session ended up running over by around 15 minutes due to audience discussion and engagement, with almost 90 attendees joining us. It was fantastic to see so many students interested in exploring how they can contribute to psychology before qualification. One of the key messages I hoped to convey was that meaningful contribution to psychology does not begin after graduation, postgraduate study, or professional registration. Whether through research, volunteering, writing, student leadership, conference presentations, or simply asking thoughtful questions, students already have valuable perspectives to offer our discipline. I also had the pleasure of welcoming and introducing Dr. Roman Raczka (BPS President), whose work and contributions to psychology continue to inspire many within our community. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, contributed to the discussion, asked questions, and shared their experiences. The level of engagement throughout the session was genuinely encouraging and serves as a reminder of the enthusiasm, curiosity, and potential within the next generation of psychologists. If there is one thing I would encourage students to remember, it is this: Your voice matters. Your perspective matters. And psychology is stronger when students actively contribute to the conversations shaping its future. https://lnkd.in/ehhJf5DA #Psychology #BPS #StudentPsychologist #PsychologyStudents #Research #Publishing #AcademicWriting #Leadership #ClinicalPsychology #FuturePsychologists #HigherEducation @British Psychological Society West Midlands Branch @BPS Psychology Students @Newman Students' Union @Birmingham Newman University

Really pleased to share my latest contribution published in The British Psychological Society, the Psychologist - “Communication, Trust, and Control are Critical in MRI Scanning” Developed through my interview with Beth Norris (Senior Radiographer), this piece highlights a simple but important point: 👉 MRI isn’t just a technical procedure - it’s a psychological experience Communication, trust, and control play a key role in shaping how patients experience scans - and ultimately, their anxiety. Would be great to hear thoughts from others working in healthcare or patient-facing roles. https://lnkd.in/eD_fnbzu #Psychology #MRI #HealthPsychology #PatientExperience #BPS #ClinicalPsychology @InHealth @BPS Psychology Students @Birmingham Newman University
