Waste is only “waste” until students decide otherwise. ♻️✨ Today, at Temasek Polytechnic School of Design, we witnessed the second edition of “Junk to Hype” — a nationwide sustainability design competition where secondary school students reimagine discarded materials into desirable lifestyle products. Organised by Temasek Polytechnic School of Design and proudly supported by Stewardship Commons, this year’s edition brought together: - 28 secondary schools across Singapore - Over 300 student participants - Nearly 100 submissions - 15 finalist teams shortlisted for the final showcase Each finalist team earned their place through creativity, effort, and a genuine attempt to rethink sustainability through design. A sincere celebration goes to all finalist teams, reaching this stage already places them among the top student designers in this national challenge: Edgefield Secondary School CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent Bendemeer Secondary School River Valley High School Temasek Secondary School Pasir Ris Secondary School Compassvale Secondary School Hougang Secondary School Tanjong Katong Girls’ School Xin Min Secondary School Bedok Green Secondary School And congratulations to our award recipients: 1st Place - Edgefield Secondary School 2nd Place - CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent 3rd Place - Bendemeer Secondary School Merit Awards - River Valley High School - Temasek Secondary School - Pasir Ris Secondary School - Edgefield Secondary School - River Valley High School We were honoured to have an esteemed panel of supporters: Ms Annisah Smith, Senior Strategic Partnerships Manager, Stewardship Asia Centre Mr Daniel Ng, Director & Chief Records Officer, Temasek Polytechnic Ms Elaine Ho, Director, School of Design, Temasek Polytechnic Ms Vani Rajandran, Deputy Director, Professional & Partnership Development, School of Design, Temasek Polytechnic With their support, we were able to recognise outstanding ideas through 8 awards and a $2,000 prize pool sponsored by Stewardship Asia Centre. To all finalists: making it into the Top 15 in a nationwide competition is already a significant achievement. Today was not just about winning — it was about stepping into the role of a designer. We look forward to continuing to grow this platform with our partners, schools, and students — and to seeing how far “junk” can still go. #temasekpolydesign #temasekpoly #tpcreatingtomorrow #SustainabilityByDesign #DesignForChange Temasek Polytechnic
