The Design and Technology (D&T) Awards is an annual award given out by the Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE) and Design and Technology Educators Society. This award recognises D&T students for designs that exhibit remarkable design thinking skills and motivates them to continue applying this skill in their daily lives. We are delighted to share that two of our freshmen are amongst the winners of this year’s awards for their project done during their studies at Dunman Secondary School. We look forward to continuing to nurture and support their growth, building on the promise and potential they have already shown. Congratulations once again Alyssa and Shambavi! Earlier in the year, one of our participating teams from the year 2 cohort was annouced as the 3rd place winner of the Singapore Timber Association School Design Competition. Titled “Ease Reach”, the design conceived by the team alleviates bedside needs with focus on routines of the elderlies. Congrats to the team once again! Wong Shan Ning Paige Lee Chloe Tan Excerpt of Concept: ‘Ease Reach’ was made for elderly residents living in singapore’s hdb flats who have difficulty reaching or finding things right before they go to sleep, or right when they wake up. the open curve design of the top surface, along with the motion detecting light, enables elderly to easily reach for and see their bedtime necessities without having to bend over and risk straining themselves or accidents. the sliding door opens up the second shelf, with wide openings on both sides to not only keep their things secure, but still allow them to reach easily. Inspired by her mother’s struggle with anosmia, the loss of the sense of smell, Tiong Jia En from the Diploma in Product Experience & Design, Temasek Poly - School of Design (TP Design), set out to create something meaningful. That journey led to Remor, a guided smell retraining kit she presented at the TP Design Show 2026 👏 To bring her vision to life, Jia En immersed herself in the world of scent. She consulted fragrance experts and a reminiscent therapist, discovering just how deeply smell is tied to memory and emotional well-being 🤝. Each insight shaped Remor, turning it into more than just a kit—it became a bridge between lost senses and the memories they unlock. Featuring scents like tea tree and lavender 🌱, the kit helps users gradually retrain their sense of smell and rebuild important brain connections. Alongside it, she developed a mobile app to guide users and even create their own scents. Calling all School of Design friends and alumni, I am excited to share that I will be part of an upcoming exhibition, not as a participant, but as the organiser. I have had the privilege of spearheading this event for over five years, and it continues to be an incredibly rewarding experience. Presenting Design Show 2026. Now less than 10 days away. The show is about to begin, and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone very soon. Featuring over 300 projects across communication, fashion, film, product, spatial, and digital experiences, the show highlights how design bridges perspectives and brings ideas to life. It celebrates the graduating Class of 2026 as they complete their journey with us, a milestone that reflects the dedication of both students and staff. This year’s cohort steps forward as multi-hyphenated designers. They are thinkers and makers, storytellers and problem-solvers, and creators who move across disciplines to connect ideas, people, and possibilities.
