On 22 April, together with the SGX RegCo, we co-hosted a closed-door roundtable on mandatory climate reporting for listed SMEs in Singapore. The session aimed to gather feedback on their level of preparedness to comply with the IFRS Foundation International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).   Under SGX RegCo’s enhanced sustainability reporting regime, all SGX-listed companies are required to publish climate-related disclosures aligned with ISSB standards, starting from the financial year 2025.     The session gathered senior representatives from 13 Mainboard and Catalist companies across diverse sectors (financial services, consumer cyclical, industrials, real estate, and energy). Representatives from Enterprise Singapore, ACRA - Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, and SBF’s SME Committee were also in attendance as observers.   During the discussion, we heard candid and practical views on: ✅ Companies’ current approaches and preparedness levels for ISSB disclosure. ✅ Practical challenges faced, including uncertainty over choice of climate scenarios, concerns over Scope 3 accounting, and difficulty in obtaining sector-specific guidance. ✅ Policy and resourcing suggestions to help companies better prepare for ISSB disclosure.   We would like to extend our appreciation to participating companies for their valuable insights and we will channel the feedback to the relevant authorities for their consideration, to further support credible and comparable sustainability reporting.    SBF is committed to help the Singapore business community with their sustainability journey through our array of initiatives such as Singapore Emission Factors Registry and the NetZeroHub.SG Resource Portal as well as programmes to support SMEs with carbon accounting and decarbonisation.    Contact us at netzerohub@sbf.org.sg to find out more.   #SBF #MobilisingBusiness #SustainabilityCentric #ISSB #ClimateDisclosure #SGX #ESG #SingaporeBusinesses #Decarbonisation #SMEs #SustainabilityReporting #IFRS

Your voice is crucial in shaping support strategies during this period of change. 📢 The Singapore Economic Resilience Taskforce (SERT) was established to support businesses and workers in navigating uncertainties arising from US tariffs and global developments. Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, SERT aims to strengthen resilience and position Singapore to thrive in the new economic landscape.   The task force will leverage the resources of tripartite partners to deliver on three key workstreams: Sensemaking and Communication, Addressing Immediate Challenges, and Longer-Term Strategies and Responses. As a member of SERT, SBF is conducting a flash business sentiment poll through the Centre for Future of Trade and Investment (CFOTI). SBF's Centre for the Future of Trade and Investment (CFOTI), with the support from Enterprise Singapore, concluded a closed-door briefing and workshop for businesses on responses to the US Tariffs announcement - "US Tariffs: Make Sense, Take Action, Plan Ahead” - which drew over 400 business leaders. The workshop consisted of a fireside chat with Minister for Transport & Second Minister for Finance Hong Tat Chee followed by a panel discussion with experts from DBS Bank, DHL, PwC Singapore, Rajah & Tann Asia and Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore). The speakers acknowledged the risks of trade war and reaffirmed that Singapore’s commitment to free trade and ASEAN integration is imperative. The key takeaways from the session included: ✅ Singapore must focus global engagements and to advocate for World Trade Organization reform. ✅ The tariffs highlighted Singapore’s trade reliance and showcased the importance informed dialogue and unified business-government action. ✅ Businesses are urged to explore diversifying trade and investment beyond the U.S. market, and maximise the benefits of Singapore’s existing Free Trade Agreements.
