Building on Ireland’s extraordinary sporting culture, world-class Irish innovators are leading the way in the sports-tech field. About 90 Irish sports tech firms are thriving with Ireland being the leading market in Europe for sports tech venture capital (VC) investment (per capita). Enterprise Ireland is very proud to be Europe’s largest VC investor in sports tech, backing more than half of Ireland’s sports tech VC deals. Twelve of our sports tech clients are currently visiting Australia and New Zealand on a trade visit designed to highlight Irish capability in this sector. Companies taking part in the trade visit are meeting elite sports teams, venues and sporting organisations across multiple sporting codes in both countries. They’re also taking part in innovation showcases at AFL House in Melbourne and AUT Millennium, Auckland. Innovation in sport happens when technology, performance and fan experience come together. Today the AFL - Australian Football League hosted our Irish SportsTech delegation for a special innovation showcase, bringing together our clients with representatives from several Melbourne-based AFL clubs to explore the future of sport, technology and high performance. It was a fantastic event, and we are very grateful to the AFL, the clubs and the Consul-General of Ireland, Melbourne, Marie-Claire Hughes for joining us. A highlight was certainly the behind-the-scenes tour of Marvel Stadium.
