IO Interactive is a 27-year old, AAA independent game developer and publisher, creators of the HITMAN franchise, Kane & Lynch, Mini Ninjas and Freedom Fighters. Besides ever-expanding the HITMAN universe, we are working on the highly-anticipated 007 First Light, a reimagined James Bond origin story game. We are also developing Project Fantasy, an original fantasy RPG. All of these ambitious projects are supported by Glacier, our award-winning in-house game engine. Our developers are recruited from the game and entertainment industry, as well as the best art schools from all over the world. We are a diverse team of designers, producers, artists, programmers and operations supporters from 40+ different nationalities, working on cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art game design.   • This week has been one of the most emotional moments in IOI’s history. Across all five of our studios, we’ve shared excitement, relief, gratitude, and many unforgettable moments together. From launch countdowns to tears of joy when players around the world finally stepped into 007 First Light, this week has meant more to us than words can fully express after years of pouring our hearts into this game. To everyone who has played the game, shared your reactions, supported us, or simply been part of this journey, thank you. The reception this week has been deeply moving for every developer who helped bring this game to life. As the weekend begins, our team is finally taking a moment to breathe, reflect, and enjoy something we’ve been waiting years for: sitting down at home with family and friends to simply play the game together. The following weeks we’ll be pulling back the curtain, sharing how magical this week has been for us, with moments from inside our studios and the people behind 007 First Light.     It’s Ian Fleming’s birthday today - So let’s talk about writing! Seeing the reception First Light is getting is truly amazing. Some people seem to be almost shocked at the quality of the storytelling and writing, and so I want to introduce you to three people: Christel Cecilie Graabæk, Michael Vogt and Barry Keating. The writers of 007 First Light. We initially broke the story over a three month period in what seems like a far distant past, Christel, Michael and myself, having long intense days in meeting rooms and on Teams calls – having euphoric eureka-moments and soul-crushing setbacks as we dreamt up the plot. It was never lost on us what an incredible privilege it was to be tasked with telling this story. Good times. At the same time we worked on finding the voice of these characters and this elevated universe – writing sides set in throwaway scenarios. (These were used for casting as well, which was fun.) At this point we needed additional writing bandwidth, and this is when Barry joined the team, a freelancer who wowed us with his to-the-point writing style and great sense of humor. …And then the monumental multi-year task of turning it into an actual playable game began! We divided the levels between the three of them, and they became an integral part of each mission-team, working closely with our talented level designers on spacing and pacing, taking on the mantle of Narrative Design. There were tonnes of further story development needed as we zoomed in on each mission, all with their own dramatic arcs and surrounding cast. The Writers Room was a valuable space to bounce ideas off of each other, and to come up with just the right punch-line for a specific bluff. (Our Teams-chat is filled with puns and jokes that would make your toes curl!) Throughout all this they doggedly and diligently defended the sanctity of character! And don’t forget dear reader, First Light features a great big living, breathing world, filled to the brim with conversation in every nook and cranny, all of it written by the main writers. Thousands of pages. And of course there are a great number of other talented people who’ve had an impact on the story and how we tell it, not least of which is our external partners, who I want to stress here, allowed us to tell the story we wanted to tell, including more than a few key moments where I was impressed and thankful that they did! 🚨 CLAXON: Barry Keating is now a free agent again, available to work his magic! – so if you are in need of an EXCELLENT freelance writer, you cannot do better than him! 🚨 #007FirstLight #IOInteractive #JamesBond #Writing

    Yesterday marked the first day of our release week at IO Interactive, and a day many of us had been waiting for in 7 years. Our servers went live, and 007 First Light - a game that my colleagues have poured their heart and soul into for years and years was released to the world. We counted down together and turned on the first light. We hugged. We cried, and there was a genuine smile and infectious energy that can only be experienced once in a lifetime. I don't think I was ready to be moved in that way, but I felt (and still do) humbled and grateful to be part of this. It was with great anticipation that we watched the reviews come in live, and seeing the world loving the game as much as we do is unbelievable. Thank you to all the gamers out there for supporting us. Our colleagues in the industry for congratulating us on the milestone. Personally, I am just trying to take this experience in and enjoy every minute, every tear, and the smiles on my colleagues' faces. They are my biggest heroes, and what a game they made.
