Today, we celebrate our founder, Ingvar Kamprad, on what would have been his 100th birthday. Ingvar’s influence goes far beyond what he built. He inspired curiosity, humility, and a constant drive to improve, always rooted in everyday life. That thinking continues to guide our work at the IKEA Foundation. Together with our partners, we are working to fight global warming with and for the many people, so everyday life can be better, now and in the future. As Ingvar said, “Most things still remain to be done. A glorious future!” There is still much to do. We move forward together. Happy birthday, Ingvar. 💙

What if nature had a seat at the table? 🪴 That’s what the REFOOTURE project — by Wageningen University & Research and its partners, funded by the IKEA Foundation — is doing in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia. In community workshops, they place a sapling on a chair at the table and invite participants to speak from nature’s perspective. What would the river say? The forest? The soil? It’s a simple but powerful way to bring nature into decision-making. Read more in this article by Thies Reemer: https://lnkd.in/dBAgQmuZ 💬 Know other projects giving nature a voice? “Today was a very personal learning, that will stay with me forever.” 🌍 This is what happens when you see up close the work IKEA Foundation partners do every day. In Indonesia, IKEA Foundation ambassador Isabel Puig Palerm and 36 friends from IKEA met some of the people leading the country’s net zero transition. We saw circular solutions like black soldier fly larvae, near-silent electric fishing boats, and the real challenges of switching to electric vehicles. In one village, solar panels on the market roof are already lowering costs and emissions. Real solutions. Already working. Ready to scale. A big thank you to ViriyaENB and the inspiring organisations they introduced us to. 👇 To our ambassadors around the world: what moments have stayed with you? #IKEAFoundationAmbassador

Young people aren’t waiting for the just energy transition. They’re making it happen. 🌍💡 All over the world, a new generation is coming forward with bold ideas and community-driven solutions for a fairer climate future. There’s a young advocate pushing for transparency around mining in the Philippines. Friends are bringing solar power to a remote village in the Peruvian Amazon. A young engineer is helping girls lead renewable energy solutions in Burkina Faso. These stories show what a just energy transition can look like when local communities lead the way. With our partner, the Youth Climate Justice Fund, we’re proud to support youth-led initiatives that turn ambition into real change. 👉 Meet the young leaders behind these solutions: https://lnkd.in/eX-MXXTZ 💬 Have a youth-led climate solution to highlight? Imagine running your business without electricity. For around 600 million people in #Africa, this is not hypothetical; it is reality. The energy gap limits income, growth and opportunity, forcing many communities to rely on expensive, polluting power sources. Through the Powering Renewable Energy Opportunities (#PREO) programme, led by The Carbon Trust and Energy 4 Impact, small businesses receive funding and support to strengthen and scale business models that use renewable energy — from solar-powered irrigation and electric transport to cold storage. With support from the IKEA Foundation and Transforming Energy Access, PREO has: ✅ 48 projects across 15 African countries ✅ €28 million mobilised in public and private investment ✅ 23,000+ people with improved access to energy ✅ 650+ sustainable long-term jobs created ✅ 2,200+ tonnes of CO₂ reduced or avoided By enabling businesses to integrate renewable energy into their operations and grow sustainably, PREO helps strengthen local economies, build climate resilience and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Energy powers more than infrastructure — it powers possibility. Learn more here: https://preo.org/about/ #IKEAfoundation #ClimateAction / Rhiannon Turner

Can solar power help with water access? In Berbere, Ethiopia, it did just that💧☀️ Despite surrounded by four rivers that flow all year, the region had limited water reach due to limited grid connectivity. Without affordable, reliable energy, pumping water from river to field is impossible. A pilot project by WRI and Folkekirkens Nødhjælp (DanChurchAid) with funding from the IKEA Foundation showed this can be changed. With solar-powered irrigation, Berbere’s farmers are producing higher value crops and harvesting three to four times a year. Learn how this project can be upscaled: https://lnkd.in/g-HkTcuY

Agriculture supports millions of livelihoods across India, with women playing a central role in this workforce. However, many smallholder farmers continue to face challenges due to limited access to reliable energy and affordable irrigation, which restricts productivity and income. Renewable energy is expanding opportunities for farmers. Sustain Plus is scaling solutions that help farmers adapt to climate change, reduce manual labour, and increase energy independence. These efforts have resulted in: 🔆 Over 24,000 renewable energy solutions implemented 💧 3,750 solar irrigation systems installed 🏘️ More than 100,000 households reached across 22 states For women in agriculture, improved access to reliable energy increases productivity, creates economic opportunities, and strengthens household stability. Through the Productive Use of Renewable Energy (#PURE) approach, we support partners like Sustain Plus in expanding renewable energy solutions that strengthen rural livelihoods and advance climate action. What can change when #agriculture and energy are planned together? 🌱🌍 Food systems depend on more than crops and climate — they’re shaped by people, supporting services, and the systems around them. Written last year, this article brings together insights from work and partnerships across Eastern Africa, co-written by Judith Jacobs from SNV, and our co-workers, Ahmed Sameh and Nico Janssen. Today, nearly 20% of the world’s #energy use goes into food systems, yet many farmers still lack the power, infrastructure, and services they need to adapt and thrive. These five reasons explain why bringing regenerative agriculture and renewable energy together can help make food production — and rural livelihoods — more resilient. 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dkqAekCt The Power for Food Partnership works across Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Rwanda to bring these connections into practice — linking renewable energy, regenerative agriculture, and cross-sector collaboration to support farmers and build more resilient, sustainable food systems. #IKEAfoundation #PowerForFood
