Feedback on Aurélien Berthier’s mobility, co-funded by ED - EUR MaSTIC/LS2N - Laboratoire des Sciences du Numérique de Nantes Funding application forms are available on the EUR MaSTIC and ED MaSTIC websites. "During the first year of my PhD, which take place in the Computational Bioinformatics (ComBi) team of the Laboratoire des Sciences du Numérique de Nantes (LS2N - Laboratoire des Sciences du Numérique de Nantes), on the development of dedicated algorithms for peptidomics under the direction of Guillaume FERTIN, Géraldine Jean and Hélène Rogniaux, I had the opportunity to take part in the 2025 European Proteomics Association Conference (EUPA 2025). This conference took place from the 16th June to the 20th June in Saint-Malo. EUPA conferences gather every year a large part of the European Proteomics community and propose sessions covering most angles of the wide-ranging field of research that is proteomics. After a general introduction about proteomics and the opening of the conference on the first day, I was able to follow sessions dedicated to peptidomics, AI and bioinformatics, quantitative proteomics or also DIA based proteomics as well as lectures from internationally renowned speakers. This allowed me to widen and deepen my understanding of proteomics, especially regarding peptides identifications. In particular, the keynote given by Pr. Lennart Martens was really inspiring and showed the progress made during the past years using AI in proteomics. This conference also offered me the possibility of presenting my work for the first time in an international context: I presented a poster about my work on protein inference, which led to rich exchanges with other participants in the conference. The poster sessions were also the occasion to discover new and interesting work from different researchers on various topics. As EuPA 2025 was gathering scientists from all Europe, it was the perfect place to meet colleagues from BIA (INRAE) and PAPPSO (GQE – Le Moulon) platforms and the CompOmics (VIB-UGent, Ghent University) group, with whom we’re collaborating on the PEPTIDOMS ANR project. We had the opportunity to exchange to better understand our respective work and push forward our collaboration. Several social events were organized during the week (ECR Networking event, Gala Dinner, Sandcastle contest…), which were for me the occasion to meet the other participants to the conference in a different context and develop my professional network. I would like to thank the organizers of EuPA 2025 for this event and for giving me the opportunity to present my work. I am also grateful to my supervisors (Pr. Guillaume Fertin, Dr. Géraldine Jean and Dr. Hélène Rogniaux) for their support. Finally, I would like to thank the EUR MaSTIC for its financial support. " To conclude, EuPA 2025 was a very motivating experience and I’m looking forward to my next conference!"

Feedback on Marie Compain’s mobility, co-funded by ED - EUR MaSTIC/Laboratoire de mathématiques Jean Leray NU - CNRS - ECN Funding application forms are available on the EUR MaSTIC and ED MaSTIC websites. "I am a PhD student at Laboratoire de mathématiques Jean Leray NU - CNRS - ECN at Nantes Université in applied mathematics, under the supervision of christophe berthon and Anaïs Crestetto. My research focuses on the development of numerical schemes to simulate self-organized motions. During my first year of thesis, thanks to ED/EUR MaSTIC and LMJL, I had the opportunity to take part in the Shark-FV workshop in Minho (Portugal), organized by Stéphane Clain and Raphaël Loubère. This event aims to bring together researchers (mainly from Europe) to discuss and collaborate on Finite Volume (FV) methods, which are the type of numerical schemes used in my thesis. Each day of the week, I attended presentations by other researchers in the morning, while the afternoons were dedicated to working sessions, designed to create and strengthen collaborations between participants. There was also a talk about the French academic system for early-career researchers, which I found particularly informative. This workshop was highly valuable for me because, on the one hand, I could deepen my understanding of FV schemes and their applications, thanks to the scientific presentations. On the other hand, it provided me a great opportunity to meet and exchange with PhD students and researchers of this field of applied mathematics, and thanks to the afternoon working sessions, I was able to initiate collaborations with some participants of the workshop."

MaSTIC reposted this
A few months ago, I had the opportunity to benefit from the financial support of the Doctoral School MaSTIC to carry out an international mobility as part of my PhD at Laboratoire d'Informatique de l'Université du Mans, LIUM – Le Mans Université, where I am working under the supervision of Anthony Larcher and Meysam Shamsi. My research focuses on the automatic evaluation of speech synthesis, with the goal of minimizing human intervention. More specifically, my thesis, entitled “Optimizing Human Intervention for Synthetic Speech Quality Evaluation: Active Learning for Adaptability”, explores how to build a framework for predicting synthetic speech quality using objective models, while involving as little human participation as possible. This mobility aimed at participating in Interspeech 2025, organized by ISCA (International Speech Communication Association). Interspeech is the leading international conference in the field of speech processing and spoken communication. Each year, it brings together several thousand researchers, PhD students, and experts from around the world, providing a unique opportunity to share scientific advances, exchange ideas, and develop new collaborations. The program is particularly rich, featuring plenary talks by international experts, oral presentations and poster sessions covering a wide range of topics, as well as workshops and special sessions opening up new perspectives. During this stay, I had the opportunity to present three papers in different formats: a poster on how to adapt a speech evaluation system from one language or domain to another, a workshop presentation on the use of a deepfake detector to assess the quality of synthetic voices, and a presentation at the doctoral consortium, where I gave an overview of my work. These moments were particularly stimulating, as they allowed me to discuss my research with peers from the community, receive constructive feedback, and enrich my scientific thinking. I also attended many oral presentations on a variety of topics, which enabled me to broaden my knowledge, discover complementary approaches, and refine my overall understanding of current challenges in my research field. Beyond these presentations, this experience was extremely valuable. I was able to expand my network, meet internationally renowned researchers, discover new approaches, and strengthen my scientific communication skills. I would like to thank the Doctoral School MaSTIC for its support, Laboratoire d'Informatique de l'Université du Mans, LIUM, my supervisors Anthony Larcher and Meysam Shamsi for their guidance and for encouraging me to take part, and Interspeech for its warm welcome. I would also like to express my gratitude to the LST team present on site Jane Wottawa, Aran Emînî, Emmanuelle Billard and Marie Tahon, who greatly helped me to adapt and integrate during the event.

Feedback on Marianne Curely’s mobility, co-funded by ED MaSTIC/LAREMA Funding application forms are available on the EUR MaSTIC and ED MaSTIC websites. "During the first year of my PhD at the Laboratoire Angevin de Recherche Mathématiques (LAREMA), I had the opportunity to spend three weeks in Montreal to collaborate with Lysianne Hari, Associate Professor at the University of Franche-Comté (Besançon), who is on assignment in Canada for the 2024-2025 academic year. We mainly worked at the Centre de Recherche Mathématiques (CRM) located on the campus of the University of Montreal, but I also visited McGill University. I discovered the libraries of the BAnQ (Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec), which are very spacious and particularly conducive to work. I also enjoyed the calm and studious atmosphere of some Montreal cafés, where working is very common: it is a well-established habit among the city’s residents. From a professional standpoint, this experience was particularly beneficial: it allowed me to progress in my thesis in a stimulating environment and to explore new directions in my research field. Thanks to a kind and intensive collaboration, I fully took advantages of this exchange, which is an important part of the researcher’s profession. Beyond the academic aspect, I spent weekends to visit several remarkable places in Quebec, starting with Montreal, with its extensive underground city and the impressive view from the summit of Mount Royal. I also explored Quebec City as well and the impressive Montmorency Falls. I encountered many squirrels, met Quebecers with their distinctive accent, and enjoyed local meals. Overall, this experience was rich and memorable, both professionally and personally. Many thanks to the MaSTIC Doctoral School for the financial support."
