About us
Bactobio is a London-based biotechnology company that uses breakthroughs in genomics, machine learning and bioengineering to culture the 99% of microbes that have previously been unculturable. Our exclusive access to nature’s greatest bioresource allows us to unlock novel chemistries that have evolved to be effective, specific and biodegradable. Our first targets are to discover novel antibiotics against the worst bacterial infections and help make plant protection sustainable.

We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Daniel Blicher Hansen, Co-founder and CEO of Bactobio, to the SynbiTECH2025 stage this December. Bactobio is developing nature’s microbial diversity to build a healthier and more sustainable future. By integrating advances in machine learning, genomics, and synthetic biology, their platform is designed to systematically cultivate the 99% of microbes that were previously unculturable. This allows them to mine a vast, untapped reservoir of natural chemistry for novel antimicrobials. Daniel co-founded Bactobio to translate this breakthrough into real-world solutions for agriculture and healthcare. His unique background combines a PhD in microbiology from Imperial College London, where he focused on screening for novel antibiotics, with an MSc in Finance and experience in investment banking and venture capital, giving him both the scientific and commercial acumen to lead the company. He will be speaking on Day 1 as part of our Company Reviews, sharing insights into Bactobio’s unique platform and the vast potential of unculturable microbes to solve critical global challenges. 📍 9–10 December | IET London: Savoy Place
