Grateful for the opportunity to attend the 1st Workshop on Data Science for Health and Biology at Politecnico di Milano. As a Data Science enthusiast, this workshop provided valuable insights into genomics, medical imaging, and clinical data analysis. I particularly enjoyed the hands-on sessions on genetic data encoding, quality control, and risk score modeling, as well as the talks on deep learning applications in radiology and anomaly detection. The final sessions on real-world use of electronic health records showed the powerful connection between research and healthcare practice. 🌟 Excited to share that our team participated in the 1st Workshop on Data Science for Health and Biology (DS4HB), held at Politecnico di Milano from April 7th to 9th, 2025! 🧬📊 We presented three posters covering a range of cutting-edge topics: 🔢 Giorgia Biddau – "A multi-scale approach for automatic parameter selection in copy number analysis with ASCAT" ⚗️ Sara Sommariva – "A PCA-based tool for local sensitivity analysis of chemical reaction networks for proteomic analysis" 🧬 Isabella Cama – "Segmentation variability and radiomics stability for predicting Triple-Negative Breast Cancer subtype using MRI" 🎙️ On top of that, Sara Garbarino contributed to the Medical Imaging Day by joining the roundtable discussion "AI meets Medical Imaging: a mathematical point of view" — a great moment of exchange on the intersection between AI and clinical imaging. Happy to share that we’ve been invited to the 1st conference on Data Science for Health and Biology - DS4HB Workshop, organised in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano and Human Technopole We had a glimpse of the current research and we presented our Applied Statistics project: Air Pollution Map estimation and exposure assessment on a simulated path. Proud to share my first research project titled Generation of Synthetic Electronic Health Records: A Smart Platform for Oral Patient Diagnosis Prediction, presented at DS4HB Workshop. We’re building a smart platform to support clinicians in diagnosing oral diseases, using both real and synthetic clinical data in English and Italian. Attending DS4HB Workshop as a PhD student was more than just a presentation opportunity — it was a chance to step into a vibrant, interdisciplinary community. I had the pleasure of exchanging ideas with researchers from different fields, each bringing a unique perspective to shared challenges. This experience really broadened my horizons and reminded me how much we can grow when we step outside our own niche and engage with diverse approaches and mindsets. Looking forward to more of these moments of learning and connection.
