Ever notice what happens after a miss? A slipped launch date. A churn spike. A deal that “should’ve closed.” Marketing blames Sales. Sales blames Product. Product blames Ops. Ops blames “the market.” And while everyone is technically right…nothing gets better. Here’s the leadership move that changes the whole culture: Take the blame first. Not as a martyr. Not to “be nice.” But because blame is a tax on execution. I picked this up years ago, and it snapped into place again, rereading Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. Extreme ownership = you own the outcome. No loopholes. No “yeah, but.” No “if only.” When something goes sideways, the question isn’t: “Whose fault is this?” It’s: “What did I do (or not do) that allowed this to happen?” What this looks like in real life When the quarter misses, the best leaders don’t start with excuses. They start with a mirror: Did we set clear priorities, or 12 “top priorities”? Did we resource the plan, or just announce it? Did we coach the team, or only inspect the forecast? Did we align Product/Marketing/Sales on one story, or let silos freelance? Did we wait too long to face the truth? The habit that builds accountability fast Try this for 7 days: At the end of each day, write down one thing that didn’t go well. Then finish this sentence (in writing): “My contribution to this was…” (3 bullets minimum) It’s uncomfortable. That’s the point. Discomfort is where accountability is born. Important nuance Extreme ownership doesn’t mean letting people off the hook. You own the environment (clarity, expectations, coaching, resources). They own execution (commitment, quality, results). You can hold a high bar and take responsibility for building the system that hits it. Founders think they have a GTM problem. But 8 out of 10 times, it is actually a positioning problem. Let me explain 👇 The pattern I keep seeing: A founder says; “We are not getting inbound leads.” “Our ads don’t convert.” “Sales calls aren’t closing.” And immediately, the team jumps into GTM mode: - “We need better content.” - “We should run LinkedIn ads.” - “Maybe let’s hire a sales agency.” But here is the truth → If your positioning is not clear, your GTM can not fix it. You are trying to scale confusion. A B2B automation consultant I worked with thought his GTM was not working. He had a great offer, smart content, and solid outreach, but low conversions. We dug deeper. The issue was not even GTM; it was positioning. He was calling himself a “process automation consultant.” But his clients were not looking for automation; They were looking to save 20 hours a week and cut manpower costs. We changed the positioning to → “I help SMBs cut 30% of operational time through smart AI automations.” Result? Same GTM. Same channels. But 3X more replies. 2X higher close rate. Your GTM = the engine. Your Positioning = the fuel. That massive CRM database you’ve been building for 10 years? It just became a liability. Under India’s DPDP Act, data is no longer an unquestioned asset. It is Expiring Inventory. The law introduces "Purpose Limitation" and "Retention Boundaries." You can no longer keep customer files forever "just in case." Once the purpose for collecting that data is served, the law mandates its erasure. If your old loyalty data doesn't meet the new consent standards, it is a ₹250 crore risk. This is the 18-month operational reckoning. The May 2027 deadline is a hard cutoff with no grace period. Security failures alone can trigger the maximum ₹250 crore penalty. Data protection is no longer an IT task; it is now a board-level strategic priority. The brands that win will be those with smaller, cleaner, and trust-based datasets. The clock is real. Our full GTM strategy that helped us grow our ARR >25% MoM for the last 6 months - it's even showing signs of accelerating! We have given it the codename "Outbound Sales". It's crazy effective if you do it right. All right, here goes. Are you ready? These are the steps (read carefully): - Make long list - Call long list to book demo - Demo -> 1-2 more meetings -> Closed won I know, I know. It's not sexy. It has no AI SDR booking meetings by spamming 1.000 emails a day. It doesn't include posting to LinkedIn 3 times a day. Not even super sexy paid ads. But damn, does it work. Jokes aside, of course we will add spammy AI SDRs and 99 different paid ads channels at some point. But for us, starting by getting plain old outbound to _really_ work has been a huge unlock. Now every other thing we add to the mix just makes us grow faster. I'll even go so far as to say, that if you cannot get outbound sales to work - good luck getting paid ads or an AI SDR to work. You probably have other problems - product, offer, value proposition. I'll be using it as a litmus test from now on. PS. This mostly applies to sales-heavy B2B SaaS offerings, of course.

Ask about their current challenges, budget cycles, decision timelines. Government buyers want partners who understand their world.   Do your homework. Research their recent board meetings, budget allocations, and upcoming contract expirations.
