IntrCity SmartBus takes a step forward with the launch of AQI-enabled buses (IntrCity SmartBus.AQI) in Vijayawada, inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner from the Traffic Police Department. During the event, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed and acknowledged key aspects of the initiative, including AQI-enabled air purification for improved in-cabin air quality, onboard washroom facilities for long-distance convenience, and thoughtfully integrated features such as emergency roof hatch exits, FR-grade interiors, safety hammers, fire extinguishers, and other onboard measures. The presence and validation from the Traffic Police Department further reinforced the robustness of these enhancements and their role in elevating the overall intercity travel experience. IntrCity SmartBus is now live across 13 cities, continuing to expand access to better intercity travel. There has been a lot of conversation in the recent weeks about the safety practices followed in the buses. Some of them more as facts and some as mere speculation. Dinesh Rathi, IntrCity SmartBus's VP of Bus Transformation, sat down with the experts in India in bus body manufacturing to understand how good or bad is the state of bus safety. The experts from two of the best in India - MG Group and S M Kannappa Automobiles (who operate under the brand name of Prakash) - gave their opinion on the current state of safety standards allowed in India; where things are lacking; and what the future looks like. Nearly 90% of buses deployed on IntrCity SmartBus platform are manufactured by either MG Group or S M Kannappa Group. Both of them together bring in nearly 100 years of bus body building experience and building thousands and thousands of heavy vehicles over the years.
