I asked 250,000 people what this device was, and nobody got it right. The guesses were all over the place. Portable battery charger. Hard drive. ...Taser. But it is actually the brand new Speedtest Pulse by Ookla. And my first reaction was probably the same one a lot of network engineers would have: Why do I need dedicated hardware for a speed test when my phone and laptop already do that for free? But after testing it, I think that misses the point. The useful part is not “speed test, but on separate hardware.” The useful part is that you can test Wi-Fi in the actual spot where people are complaining, then leave with recommendations and a report instead of just a number. That matters because “the Wi-Fi is slow” is not a diagnosis. It is where the guessing starts unless you have something better to test with. I go through it in the video, but the short version is this: If you support remote offices, troubleshoot Wi-Fi complaints, or need to validate a new wireless deployment, this is one of the fastest portable ways I’ve seen to do it.
