Our VP of Industry Analysis, Sylwia Kechiche, was in Samarkand last week for M360 Eurasia - and came back with a clear picture of where Central Asia's digital ambitions stand versus where the infrastructure actually is. A few things that stood out: Uzbekistan went from 35% mobile broadband coverage in 2017 to 99.5% in 2026. That's the kind of trajectory that turns sovereignty talk into something real - and it's now backing that up with sovereign AI infrastructure, an independent telecom regulator, and a national AI education program that's already reached over a million young people. But ambition alone doesn't close the gap. As Sylwia put it in the session she moderated on infrastructure reliability: there's a persistent distance between what operators invest in networks and what users actually experience. That's the problem Opensignal data is built to measure - and the one this region needs to solve as it races toward 5G and AI. The conversations ranged from satellite partnerships filling coverage gaps across Kazakhstan's vast geography, to the "digital operator" pivot that's becoming a survival strategy rather than a side project, to the honest reality that you can't have a meaningful AI conversation when 90 million people in Pakistan still lack internet access. Our VP of Industry analysis - Sylwia Kechiche is at #M360Eurasia, and the conversation keeps coming back to one thing: as the industry races toward AI-driven networks and experiences, connectivity fundamentals have never mattered more. The promise of AI - from smarter network operations to richer user experiences - only delivers when the underlying infrastructure is reliable, consistent, and ready to scale. As Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim put it, without that foundation, AI risks widening the digital divide rather than closing it. That's exactly what we focus on at Opensignal - making sure operators have the real-world network intelligence to build connectivity that actually supports what comes next. Our very own Sylwia Kechiche is on the ground at M360 Eurasia in Samarkand this week. Day 1 surfaced some big themes. Central Asian operators are building sovereign AI and cloud infrastructure while trying to stay interoperable. VEON's CEO made the case for telcos to stop selling raw data and start competing on meaningful services. And satellite connectivity - from Starlink partnerships to AST SpaceMobile's direct-to-device play - is moving from niche to mainstream faster than most expected. Sylwia breaks it all down in her day 1 recap 👇 https://hubs.la/Q04hh5fH0 If you're at M360 Eurasia, don't miss Sylwia moderating "Always-On Central Asia: 5G, Data Centres, and Infrastructure Reliability" tomorrow - Ballroom, Ground Floor, 11:45. 🧛🏼♂️ Like its world-famous vampire legends, Romania has a mobile landscape just waiting to be discovered! Here are some of the latest insights we found out: - Digi Mobil wins for Games and Video Experience, leading second-placed Orange by three percentage points in both categories - However, Digi Mobil struggles to compete with Orange and Vodafone for Overall and 5G Download Speeds - Telekom wins the Time Spent on 5G award jointly with Orange, despite being behind its competitor networks for all other 5G-related criteria Romania's mobile market shows that even the most consistent players can have their winning streaks disturbed in certain key areas. Heading to Network X Americas next week? We'll be in Dallas May 18–20, and we'd love to connect. Broadband is a capital-intensive business - but the real competitive edge doesn't come from spending more. It comes from knowing more. That's exactly what Opensignal's network and subscriber intelligence solutions deliver. Our ONX Broadband platform gives ISP's visibility into what internal telemetry misses: in-home Wi-Fi performance, off-net CDN quality, and independent benchmarking against competitors. Our Broadband CarrierVision and MarketVision products - used by most of the top 10 U.S. ISP's - track subscriber flows so you can see exactly where you're winning customers and where you're losing them. The results speak for themselves. One major U.S. telco used our data to identify an underperforming router model dragging down fiber customers' experience - and replaced it for 100,000+ subscribers to reduce churn risk. A mid-market carrier integrated our competitive intelligence into localized marketing campaigns and won more than its fair share of customers in new-build fiber markets. If you're at Network X Americas and want to talk about how better intelligence drives better broadband decisions, book a meeting with the Opensignal team. 📅 May 18–20 | Irving Convention Center, Dallas, TX https://hubs.la/Q04gMKJS0 #NetworkXAmericas #Broadband #Telecom #ISP #Opensignal
