Key Points
  • Monitor all CDNs in a unified dashboard, with prebuilt coverage for CDNs handling more than 80% of global traffic.
  • Correlate and compare CDN performance metrics in real time, including error rates, cache hit percentage, throughput, and latency across all providers.
  • Drill down into performance across regions, ISPs, and more, so you can reroute traffic before viewers are affected by outages or buffering issues.
  • Monitor encoding and packaging health from AWS Elemental MediaLive and MediaPackage. Catch dropped frames, 4xx/5xx errors, and encoding latency before they impact viewers.
  • Track ad delivery performance with AWS Elemental MediaTailor, including fill rates, ad context, and abandonment.
  • Analyze client-side QoE metrics like playback failures, buffering, and startup time with Mux and Bitmovin integrations.
  • Enrich log data with WURFL device intelligence to understand stream performance across thousands of device profiles.
  • Capture information like device type, codec support, screen resolution, and user agent to troubleshoot device-related issues and optimize advertisements.
  • Retain 15+ months of full-fidelity data to compare event performance year over year. All data is hot for queries regardless of age.
  • Keep a full record of performance for partners, rights holders, and internal stakeholders with complete historical records.
  • Support AI/ML model training on complete historical data, not short-term, sampled datasets.

FAQ

What data volumes can Hydrolix handle for live events?

Hydrolix is built for internet-scale peak loads. During the Super Bowl, Hydrolix hit a peak of 17.4 GB/second for FOX, the equivalent of 1.4 petabytes per day. Hydrolix can handle volumes ranging from terabytes to petabytes per day, including spikes due to demand or unpredictable events like DDoS attacks.

How does the Hydrolix data pipeline work for live media observability?

Log data from your infrastructure streams into Hydrolix in real time via Kafka, Kinesis, or HTTP. At ingest time, Hydrolix applies transforms that normalize, enrich, and compress data, reducing your data footprint by 20–50x while optimizing it for fast queries.

You can ingest data into both summary tables (for fast aggregations and metrics) and raw tables (for root cause analysis and granular investigations). Data is available for queries within ten seconds even at peak load.

Does Hydrolix sample or aggregate data at high ingestion rates?

No. Hydrolix ingests and stores full-fidelity data at peak rates without sampling or aggregation. This matters most during live events, when the problems you need to find — buffering spikes, CDN errors, latency in specific geographies — are often buried in the data that sampled platforms throw away.

How does Hydrolix support multi-CDN live media operations?

Hydrolix provides prebuilt integrations for major CDN providers used in live media, including Akamai, Cloudflare, AWS CloudFront, and Fastly. CDN log data flows into a unified dashboard, where you can correlate performance across providers in real time and drill down into individual CDN behavior by geography, ASN, device type, and more.
