Restrictions and limitations for team deployments of Dropbox Dash

This article describes features available to all Dropbox Dash customers.
Note: We regularly update Dropbox Dash, which may change the default limits for your team.
Deployment requirements
Eligibility requirements
Dash for Teams is available only if all of the following apply:
- Dropbox plan: Your account is on Dropbox Basic, Dropbox Standard, Dropbox Business, Dropbox Advanced, or Dropbox Business Plus.
- Supported regions: Your team is located in the United States, United Kingdom, or Australia.
- Account language: Your Dropbox account’s primary language is set to English.
- Encryption key management: Managed encryption keys must be turned off on your Dropbox account.
- Replay or Sign users: If your Dropbox team account includes Replay or Sign, all users on the team must have licenses. Learn more about Dash for teams.
Unsupported deployments
Dash for Teams isn’t currently available for:
- Individual users on Dropbox Plus, Professional, or Essentials plans.
- Customers on managed teams.
- Accounts that require HIPAA compliance. Learn more about Dash for teams.
Setup limitations
- Device-wide installs on shared machines aren’t supported.
Team management
Member management
- Each team member needs a Dash account and license to get started.
- After a member is removed, the same email address can’t be reused to create a new Dropbox account for seven days.
- If the removed user’s files are transferred to another team member during removal, the email address can be reused immediately. Learn more about managing team members in Dash.
Platform and device support
Mobile app
- The Dropbox Dash mobile app is available only in select countries.
- The app is available in English only.
- The Dash mobile app must run on supported operating systems. Learn more about Dash system requirements.
- Ask, Write, and Organize aren’t available on mobile.
Desktop app
- The Dash desktop app must run on supported operating systems. Learn more about Dash system requirements.
- Local file search is supported only on the Dash desktop app.
Browser extension
- The Dash browser extension requires a supported browser version. Learn more about Dash system requirements.
- Turning off the Dash start page during installation may also turn off the entire extension.
- Note: If the extension turns off after disabling the Dash start page, turn the extension back on in your browser’s extensions menu, and disable only the Dash start page setting.
dash.ai
- dash.ai can’t search files stored locally on your computer.
- AI features, including summarization, aren’t supported for local files.
Apps and integrations
Connecting apps
To connect an app to Dash:
- Certain apps must first be enabled by a Dash admin.
- You must authorize the app during setup.
- You must have an active account with the app you want to connect. Learn more about connecting apps to Dash.
Individual app connections
- Depending on the app, you may not be able to connect your own individual account after an admin connects that app for your team.
- Some apps support both:
- An admin-connected version for shared team content.
- An individual connection for personal or private content. Learn more about connecting apps to Dash.
Multiple account limitations
- Connecting multiple accounts for the same app isn’t supported.
- You can’t connect multiple profiles for apps such as Gmail or Google Drive. Learn more about connecting apps to Dash.
Search limitations
- Dash searches content from connected apps only.
- Search capabilities vary depending on the integrations you’ve connected.
AI features and access
AI features
- Ask, Write, and Organize are available on dash.ai and the Dash desktop app.
- Ask, Write, and Organize aren’t available on the mobile app.
- AI features, including summarization, aren’t supported for local files.
Chat model selection
- You can choose from a curated set of AI models before sending a prompt.
- Not all AI models are available to every user.
- Available models may change over time. Learn more about choosing a chat model in Dash.
Activity feed
- The activity feed shows files only from select connected apps.
Files and uploads
Upload limits
The following upload limits apply in Dash:
- Maximum file size: 25 MB per file
- Files per upload: Up to 10 files at a time.
- Images per conversation: Up to 50 images.
- Text extraction limit: Up to 4.5 MB of text per file.
- PDF limit: Up to 75 pages.
- PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx) limit: Up to 75 slides.

You can attach the following file types in chat:

- Markdown (.md).
- PDF (.pdf).
- Text (.txt).
- Excel (.xlsx, .xls).
Images
- BMP (.bmp).
- GIF (.gif).
- JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg).
- PNG (.png).
- TIFF (.tiff).
- WebP (.webp).
Videos
- 3GP (.3gp).
- 3GPP (.3gpp).
- 3GPP2 (.3gpp2).
- ASF (.asf).

- DV (.dv).

Design files

Verified files
- Only admins can verify files.
- File verification applies only to content from apps connected by admins.
- Files from users’ personal connected apps can’t be verified or included in verified results.
Security and governance
Dropbox Protect
- Protect currently supports only Dropbox, Microsoft 365, and Google Drive.
- Policies run once daily at 08:00 UTC.
- If you edit or deactivate a policy, queued actions may still run.
- Admins can view files from supported connected apps, but can’t access local files or browser history.
- When exporting to CSV, export filtered results only. Exporting all results isn’t recommended. Learn more about managing Protect in Dash.
Content organization and collaboration
Company directory
- Some profile fields, such as job title, location, and manager, are synced from your company directory and can’t be edited in Dash.
- Company directory isn’t available during the free trial.
Stacks
Comments
- Each item in a Stack can have only one comment.
- Comments can be up to 2,000 characters long.
- Only the comment author or the Stack owner can delete a comment.
Publishing
- Only admins can publish company Stacks.
Sharing and availability
- Creating Stacks directly in Dropbox is currently available only to teams eligible for a preview of Dash in Dropbox.
- You can currently share Stacks on dropbox.com only with members of your team.
Browser support
- Adding a group of tabs to a Stack is currently supported only in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Learn more about using Stacks with Dash.
