The Governing Body
The EMCC UK Governing Body exists to provide advice, support, and resource to our members as well as to the Board. While the Board is responsible for running the organisation, the Governors’ role is to ensure the organisation is run in the best interests of our members. The Governors do not have direct responsibility for Board matters, but they are guardians of the EMCC UK constitution, and have a governance role through which they are able to hold the Board to account. Our Governors actively welcome your feedback and input as members of EMCC UK. Their contact details, bios and LinkedIn profiles are below.
Governors, Directors and President
The Governing Body is intended to be made up of eight volunteer Governor Members, constituting the President of EMCC UK and seven further individuals. All Governor Members are elected, and the President is also elected to the Board of Directors. With the exception of the President, who is elected for a fixed three-year term, Governor Members may serve a term of up to five years. If you have any questions or would like more information about our governance, please contact our Chair of Governor Members.
Becoming a Governor member
If you are an individual member of EMCC UK and would be interested in volunteering to become a Governor Member, we hold an election process when a vacancy arises. Announcements will be made to all members, and an application pack will be made available. For other vacancies, please check our vacancies and opportunities page.
I work as an executive and team coach. I'm one of the recently elected governors. So I'm still finding out how things works here and how I can add value. My reasons for representing the members as a governor include wanting to contribute to the increasing professionalism and recognition of our practice.
EMCC is important to me because it provides a credible, professional set of standards. My clients can count on the quality that EMCC accreditation implies. I feel assured that the EMCC is working in the interests of its members.
As governors, we try to align ourselves with groups, networks and with the EMCC UK directors. I have the privilege of links with the Team Coaching special interest group; with the West Midlands, Thames Valley and Bristol & Bath regional networks; and with the Director for Coaching Practice. Through these connections, I hope to offer an additional conduit for members to get their voices heard by EMCC UK.
I have been an independent coach, mentor and supervisor for well over 25 years, working and supporting public, government and non-government, private, trade union, third sector and not for profit organisations in the civil society space. I identify as a Londoner and work across the UK and internationally.
My practice is underpinned by social, environmental and economic justice imperatives in pursuit of a fairer and more equitable, diverse and inclusive world. I have always held a broad portfolio of volunteering engagements. I regard this as an important element in an active global citizen’s palette.
I work full time as a leadership coach, drawing on my varied career that spans police detective, civil servant, army reserves officer, and chartered management consultant. I have supported governance functions at local, national and global levels in organisations across a variety of sectors, particularly public sector and sustainability.
I show up as a Governor Member of EMCC UK to represent the voice of members, collaborating with the other Governors in constructively holding the Board to account in the interests of our members.
As one of the more recently accredited among the Governors, I am particularly interested in representing the voice of those EMCC members who may be earlier in their coaching, mentoring and supervision journeys, as well as promoting equity in the profession.
As a former HR & OD Director with a retail, manufacturing and not for profit background, I’ve always had a passion for learning, leadership development and culture change. I’ve developed coaching cultures and seen the value created of investing in coach training and coaching provision at all levels.
I’m delighted to now partner with leaders and executives in organisations, through one to one and group coaching, and deliver bespoke OD work. Being a group board member with the Calico Group, a non-profit organisation, which comprises housing and non-charitable businesses, keeps me in touch with developments in the workplace, as well as with good governance.
Being an EMCC UK Governor, and giving back to the coaching profession I love, is a great privilege and source of satisfaction for me. I enjoy the role and I’m constantly astounded at how much our many volunteers deliver, and how effectively our operations team keep us on track. I’m a strong advocate of engagement, and enjoy supporting networks and special interest groups, and providing member perspectives in terms of feedback at Governor meetings.
I am a positive psychology coach with over 30 years of experience as a British Sign Language interpreter, I bring a unique and powerful perspective to the coaching profession. I have honed my non-verbal communication, deep listening, and cross-cultural facilitation skills, and they distinctively enhance my coaching practice. Through years of bridging communication gaps, I’ve developed an intuitive understanding that effective interaction goes far beyond words.
I specialise in helping individuals and teams unlock their potential by drawing on my expertise in reading subtle communication cues and building rapport across diverse backgrounds and communication styles. My practice is characterised by patience, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to process and synthesise information to support client growth.
As an EMCC Governor, I am committed to providing strategic oversight and ensuring member perspectives are effectively represented at Governor meetings. I enjoy bridging the gap between member needs and organisational direction, contributing to EMCC UK’s continued growth and development. I look forward to helping shape the strategic vision of EMCC UK while maintaining its commitment to professional excellence and diverse coaching approaches.
