  • In refining, maintaining octane while removing sulfur is one of the industry’s toughest balancing acts. ⚖️ Ultra-low sulfur targets are now standard, but traditional hydrotreating can strip away valuable octane, impacting both product value and overall profitability. But advances in catalyst technology are changing that. Solutions like OctaMax™ enable refiners to hit stringent sulfur targets at lower operating temperatures while maintaining octane levels comparable to fresh catalysts. By combining targeted regeneration with tailored catalyst selection, operators can meet regulatory targets while extending cycle lengths, reducing energy use, and lowering raw material demand. It’s a reminder that innovation in catalyst design doesn’t require compromise for compliance. • A shift is underway in refining and sulfur recovery whereby sustainability and cost efficiency are no longer viewed as competing priorities, but compatible objectives. This is especially true in tail gas units, where operators are looking to maximize performance while minimizing environmental impact and cost. As environmental regulations tighten and cost pressures grow, attention is turning to how to extract more value from existing materials and assets, to improve efficiency without compromising performance and reliability. Solutions such as Evonik’s EcoMax™ catalyst renewal restore activity to spent catalysts and re-introduce them into tail gas treating. They deliver performance equal to a fresh catalyst, while significantly reducing waste, cost, and environmental impact. 👉 To learn more, head over to the EcoMax page on our website. #SustainableRefining #SulfurRecovery #EcoMaxCatalysts #CatalystRenewal #TailGasTreating #CostEfficiency #EnvironmentalImpact #CircularEconomy #WasteReduction #PerformanceOptimization #RefiningSolutions #EvonikCatalysts #SustainabilityInAction

The smallest contaminants can often cause the biggest operational headaches. 🤯 Chloride contamination may enter reforming units in small amounts, but its effects escalate quickly. In catalytic reforming, both inorganic and organic chlorides can trigger a chain of operational issues, from corrosion and ammonium chloride deposition to catalyst poisoning and unstable product quality. These risks become more pronounced as units age or operate closer to design limits. That’s why guard beds play such an important role. They capture chloride species before they move downstream, helping protect reformer catalysts from deactivation, minimising corrosion hotspots, and keeping reformate streams within specification. Strategic placement, correct formulation, and regular monitoring of guard beds are all critical to preventing chloride slip and maintaining a stable, reliable operation. In an environment where even small process upsets can accelerate chloride breakthrough, effective chloride management isn’t just good practice, it’s essential for safe, efficient, cost stable reforming performance. #ChlorideContamination #CatalyticReforming #GuardBeds #CatalystProtection #OperationalEfficiency #CorrosionPrevention #ProcessStability #RefiningSolutions #ChlorideManagement #ReformerPerformance #CatalystPoisoning #ReliableOperations #EvonikCatalysts

Scaling chemical recycling requires more than a single technology. It takes strong partnerships and a fully integrated approach across the value chain. That is why it’s great to see our Evonik Catalysts team contribute to a new full‑chain solution, developed together with VARY TECH and SupeZET, to convert mixed plastic waste into high‑quality pyrolysis oil and circular naphtha. As part of this solution, Evonik’s proprietary Rocket technology enables the upgrading and purification of pyrolysis oil; a critical step to remove impurities and ensure consistent, specification‑grade outputs that can re‑enter existing petrochemical systems. By combining advanced upgrading, purification, and refining technologies with large‑scale pyrolysis, this approach helps address one of the key barriers to circular plastics: delivering reliable product quality at scale. The establishment of CARBON LOOP SYSTEMS in Singapore, alongside plans for a closed‑loop demonstration project, is another important step toward making these solutions commercially viable. A strong example of how collaboration and catalyst innovation can help turn ambition into industrial reality for the circular plastics economy. #Evonik #CircularEconomy

BIODIESEL. Understanding sustainability means looking at both sides of the impact equation. ⚖️ 👣 Our footprint reflects the negative environmental and social impacts of manufacturing and logistics – such as emissions from raw materials, utilities, and transportation. 🖐️ Our handprint captures the positive actions we take towards sustainability beyond reducing our own operational footprint — like inventing and producing catalyst solutions that enable recycling, reduce resource use, and support more sustainable value chains. Carbon neutrality is reached when footprint and handprint are equal, and that’s the direction we’re heading in. As part of Evonik, we’re committed to reducing CO₂ emissions by 25% between 2021 and 2030, reducing negative environmental effects wherever we can. Catalysts aren’t just part of the process, they’re part of the solution. 🌍 #Sustainability #FootprintAndHandprint #CarbonNeutrality #CO2Reduction #GreenChemistry #SustainableSolutions #CatalystInnovation #ResourceEfficiency #CircularEconomy #EnvironmentalImpact #ClimateAction #SustainableValueChains #EvonikSustainability #FutureOfManufacturing
