✨ Reflections on an Inspiring Evening with Swiss Women in VC ✨ Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting an incredible *Swiss Women in VC* event in Zurich, diving deep into the topic: "How to add value as a board member." As startups scale and grow, board dynamics evolve—so how can board members stay effective and influential throughout these transitions? Our panelists Deborah Pittet (Forestay Capital), Jennifer McCloskey (Swisscom Ventures), Aleksandra Laska (formerly redalpine) and Carolyn J. Lutz (MontaRosa) shared firsthand experiences from boardrooms across various industries and growth stages, covering topics like credibility-building, governance challenges, and navigating complex stakeholder dynamics. Key takeaways from the evening—moderated by our own Sally B.: 🔹 Credibility as a board member comes from preparation, relationship-building, and understanding company dynamics before stepping into the room. 🔹 Board roles evolve—it's key for board members to be flexible and evolve as boardrooms discussions evolve from strategy and hirings to fundraising, governance, and M&A. 🔹 Diversity matters, but institutions are increasingly rolling back board diversity requirements—making it even more critical to support and elevate qualified women in board roles. 🔹 Difficult decisions—from conflicts of interest to founder-related issues—require a balance of governance and empathy. The energy in the room was incredible, with discussions continuing well beyond the panel. Fostering strong networks and knowledge-sharing among women in VC and board roles is more important than ever.
