Ever since its inception in 1902, YMCA Calgary has been a hard working charitable organization that responds to the needs of Calgarians. YMCA Calgary has evolved into a vibrant charity where thousands of Calgarians are involved each year through health and wellness programs, leadership, and community outreach programs, child care, and day and overnight camps. Guided by four core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility, YMCA Calgary strives to offer quality programs and services that give children, youth and adults the opportunity to belong, grow, thrive and lead. YMCA Calgary has seven health and wellness facilities with one more opening in the SE quadrant in 2019, five child development centres with licensed child care, two outdoor campsites and over 60 community program sites serving all quadrants of the city. These spaces and programs allow YMCA Calgary to deliver programs, services and opportunities to help the Calgary community connect with others, build life-long skills, and keep active and healthy.

We are honoured to share that our very own Sarena J Provost has been nominated for a 2026 Women Making History in Alberta Award in the History Maker in the Making Nominees category from Heritage Park Historical Village! Sarena has made a lasting impact at YMCA Calgary as a mentor and advocate for youth belonging as our Indigenous Programs Manager. Her work spans a variety of programs including YMCA Calgary's Indigenous Drum & Dance Program. The Women Making History Awards celebrate women across Alberta whose leadership, vision and dedication shape communities today and inspire the leaders of tomorrow. YMCA Calgary and Calgary Public Library are exploring a joint-use facility in West District designed around how people live, learn and connect today. This partner-led project would advance The City of Calgary's GamePLAN objectives by increasing access to recreation and library services, helping to reduce waitlists, and create new welcoming and inspiring spaces that foster community belonging and skill development for Calgarians in West Calgary. Investment in recreation centres and libraries is critical to addressing some of the most pressing issues facing our community including rising physical inactivity, literacy rates, school readiness, social isolation, and unemployment. It was such an honour to host the Top 20 Under 20 at the Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge! The future looks bright with these young leaders ❤️
Last week, we celebrated the future of our city at Avenue’s Top 20 Under 20, presented by YMCA Calgary. The evening opened with incredible bites from A Certain Flair for Catering, a powerful Hoop Dance performance, and live music from the Oliver Miguel Duo. Guests also had fun capturing the moment at the retro photo booth by LuckySnaps YYC. We had the privilege of hearing from the program's Honourary Patron, Lois E. Mitchell, whose remarks inspired both the recipients and everyone in attendance to continue striving for impact and excellence.
