Calgary is where defence and dual-use technologies get built – and put to work. Earlier this month the Government of Canada announced new $9M in investments through the Regional Defence Initiative (RDII), backing Alberta companies that develop the technologies shaping national security. Several Calgary companies are among those leading this work: Canadian UAVs – $3M to advance drone technologies for real-time reconnaissance and situational awareness.  VizworX Inc. – $2M to bring its Virtual Operations Environment (VOE) to market and enable collaborative, real-time mission planning and operations.  Microlynx Systems Ltd – $2M to enhance high-power amplifiers that support Arctic monitoring and domain awareness – enhancing NORAD modernization and early warning capabilities.   MRO Electronics – $1M to create and retain local talent for defence manufacturing and electronics.  3-CI Manufacturing – $300K to develop military-grade cable and wiring systems. As industries around the world race to reduce emissions, Calgary is attracting companies that will help heavy industry transition to a lower-carbon future. Read more about why cleantech company CURA chose Calgary to scale its low-carbon cement technology globally ➤ https://lnkd.in/gMgtZjzy.  CURA says cement production accounts for about eight per cent of global emissions — equivalent to all cars and trucks worldwide — and its technology can reduce emissions from cement manufacturing by up to 85 per cent. Since relocating to Calgary, the company has embedded itself in the city’s innovation ecosystem, secured support from Alberta Innovates and announced new partnerships to advance commercialization in southern Alberta and beyond.
