Pale yellow Petersen D71 bricks on the facades of this community and cultural centre are laid in three different ways - a Flemish bond, relief brickwork and 'mashrabiya,' a latticework for ventilation, synonymous with Arab architecture. The light brick walls bind the volumes together to form a coherent whole, and add warmth and texture to their simple geometry. The use and application of Petersen D91 bricks at Elsternwick Residences is second to none. Bricklayer Graham Potts worked his magic on the stack bond after ADDARC requested crisp vertical lines - quite the challenge given Petersen bricks’ perfect imperfections and slight taper on each one. Methodical craftsmanship, and a stunning brick, won the day. Inside and out, the brickwork is perfection plus. “We set the team a substantial challenge and they executed to perfection ... Through multiple workshops, detailing and samples, the team were all committed to delivering on the vision,” Rohan Appel, Director, ADDARC Architect: ADDARC Product: Petersen Tegl A/S D91 bricks Builder: Omnicon Constructions Photography: @timothykaye #robertsonsbuildingproducts #petersentegl #petersenbricks #australianarchitecture #handmadebricks #handmadebrick #handcraftedbricks #melbournearchitecture

At the Coopers Visitor Centre, the palette is honest and subdued, and true to studio gram, materials were selected to age in place: “We are drawn to materials that evolve over time, rather than those that look untouched decades later. We believe in surfaces that tell a story, ones that age gracefully, bearing the marks of life. An example we like to use is that of a well-worn farm table, with its fork marks and the carvings of generations, it isn’t just furniture, it’s a record of the lives lived around it,” Graham Charbonneau, director at studio gram. The pared-back palette includes a few variations of spotted gum, including perforated panels, veneer and solid elements, as well as stainless steel, concrete, hints of leather, Corten steel and our Ash Grey brick tiles. A monolithic-style building combines handmade Petersen Cover and handmade Kolumba bricks, seemingly floating in the landscape, care of its lower glass facade, which is slightly recessed from the upper brick monolith. Where the Kolumba bricks on the gables meet the Cover on the roof and long facades, each brick is cut so the overlapping ends fold into the surface of the gable wall, interlocking with the Cover on the roof and facade. A minimal, yet highly detailed solution. Tobias Partners' Woollahra Village House is a modern masterpiece with timeless appeal. Meticulously and thoughtfully planned, at every point, from its front mock-Georgian façade, to the highly textured courtyard garden and unforgettable laneway presence, there is a great sense of interest at every turn. The material palette is a standout, with handmade Petersen Tegl A/S Kolumba™ bricks and Blackbutt dominating, paired with zinc, painted steel accents and off form concrete. Tobias Partners Principal, Matthew Krusin, sums up the project's material combination so well: “You always think it’s going to be great and then when it comes together and the textures– the Blackbutt and the Petersen bricks especially–make it look better than any concept you could render. Once the light hits them and even when the light isn’t hitting them, with the brick, it textures immediately. The steel and zinc are also there because that allowed the little bits of concrete, the Petersen and Blackbutt to really shine.” Architect: Tobias Partners Product: Petersen Tegl A/S Kolumba bricks K91 Builder: Cumberland Building Bricklaying: @jobricklaying Landscape Design: Myles Baldwin Design Photography: @justinalexanderphoto #robertsonsbuildingproducts #petersentegl #petersenbricks #architeacturaldesign #australianarchitecture #contemporaryarchitecture #archiporn #archidaily #australiandesign #minimalistdesign #danishbricks

We're loving the immaculate brick detailing at David Mitchell Architects mixed-use development in Campbell Street, Surry Hills. The rich, mottled texture of Petersen Tegl A/S D55 bricks conveys a sense of age and permanence, as though the facade has always been always part of the streetscape, yet is unmistakably modern: “The mottled, imperfect nature of the Petersen brick was really important to us. It helped give the building a sense of solidity and mass, but without looking brand new and ‘shiny’. We were just delighted with it when we found it, it’s just such a nice brick, and so unique. I love how rich and textured the Petersen D55 brick is. There isn’t really anything else on the market like it. And it’s nice to say they’re a Danish product; the Danes have a pretty rich history of design,” David Mitchell, Director, David Mitchell Architects. Take a walk through Murrumbeena House and see how beautifully the charcoal-grey toned Petersen D91 bricks deliver softness and calm to every space they're used in. This footage was captured by the team at Australia ByDesign TV for the episode on this beautiful @chrisconnelldesign home that aired late last year. Thank you Ben Hutton - for singing the praises of Petersen D91 bricks, and for great reason. You make some good points in this video as you did when we chatted with you about this project: “It was a thrill to finally use Petersen bricks, as we have wanted to use them for a long time. There aren’t too many manufacturers who produce a grey waterstruck brick and the Petersen D91 with its changing surface and varied shades of light and medium greys is like nothing else available." Huge shoutout to Peter Engberg for his masterful bricklaying skills. This perforated wall of handmade Petersen Kolumba bricks forms part of the rustic red-brown ticket pavilion at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Six specially moulded bricks in K4 clay were produced, resulting in an effect almost like a thatched screen, the wall slowly dematerialising before stopping altogether. The K4 brick was selected for its distinguished Georgian look and because it has just the right shade of red to match a nearby neoclassical arch. As for choosing handmade Kolumba bricks, "It was crucial that the brick should have that kind of powerful character ... you just can't get that from a machine-made brick." Stephen Cassell. The award-winning Currumbin Waters home presents a continuous brick language of Ash Grey brick floor tiles, both inside and out. Using a singular material for the floors creates seamless continuity, and a robust, tactile flooring solution. “We’ve always liked Robertson’s brick tiles because you can’t get many tiles that are the same format as a brick, on edge. They’re also so thin and stable, and in some parts the ceilings in the old house were less than 2.4m at different points, so we had to use a really thin tile so it was compliant. If you want to use a cut brick, it’s 30mm thick and it’s really expensive because of the labour, whereas the Robertson’s brick tiles are a really good solution,” Morgan Jenkins, Co-founder, Nielsen Jenkins Architect: NIELSEN JENKINS Product: Ash Grey brick tiles Builder: @aandjbuilding Landscape: NIELSEN JENKINS Photography: TomRoss.XYZ #robertsonsbuildingproducts #architecture #architeacturaldesign #australianarchitecture #minimal #contemporaryarchitecture #archiporn #archidaily #australiandesign #brickface #minimalist #interiorarchitecture

Two genuine handmade Petersen Tegl A/S brick products in one home: Kolumba bricks and Cover brick shingles in an English-style home in Denmark, in the deep brown shades of K57 and C57. The combination of Petersen Kolumba bricks on the facade and Petersen Cover on the brick-clad roof add character and warmth in abundance. It's the home of architect @andreas_lauesen, who says “To accentuate the building’s monolithic air, I wanted the roof to be clad in brick with the same proportions and material as the bricks on the façade. Petersen Tegl was the only supplier capable of coming up with a solution like that in the form of its Cover cladding.“ Architect: #force4architects Bricks: Petersen Tegl A/S Handmade cover (C57) and Kolumba (K57) bricks Photography: #anderssuneberg #robertsonsbuildingproducts #petersenbricks #petersencover #brickshingles #kolumbabricks #petersenkolumba #architeacturaldesign #handmadebricks #handmadebrick
