  • Unveiling The Angry Penguin — Located within the Adelaide Festival Theatre at Adelaide Festival Centre is a restaurant and bar inspired by the rebellious spirit of Max Harris’ Angry Penguins magazine and the infamous Ern Malley literary hoax. Drawing from the avant-garde energy of the publication, the design embraces a layered and theatrical atmosphere that celebrates creativity, provocation and artistic expression. Upon entering the restaurant, guests are welcomed by Sidney Nolan’s 'Ern Malley', the artwork that inspired the rich colourful palette woven throughout the interiors. The project also involved close collaboration with local designer makers andrew carvolth and Jon Goulder, who crafted bespoke furniture pieces including the chairs, waiter stations and host station that all contribute to the unique character and material richness of the space. Designed by S9 Project Team — Tony Zappia, Jaana Bithell, Alice Wilkinson & Rachel Kleimann Photography — Jonathan VDK Learn more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/gpfFtYYV

Last Saturday, we opened the doors to KĀYA Health Clubs Chadstone — our third Melbourne location and the South East's first all-in-one health and wellness destination. A moment like this belongs to many. To our members, whose belief in what we're building carries us forward. To our team, whose care shows up in every detail of the space. And to the partners Intermain, Vicinity Centres and many more who helped turn an ambitious vision into something you can now walk through, breathe in and call your own. Thank you for being part of the journey. Enjoy a first look at the space below — with plenty more to come soon. The doors are open, and we'd be honoured to show you around — book a club tour and come see what we've created together. https://lnkd.in/g4xPPGsn #KĀYAHealthClubs #Chadstone #Melbourne #HealthAndWellness #NowOpen

  • In honour of National Reconciliation Week, Studio Nine Architects is proud to have received formal endorsement of our inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). We began our reconciliation journey with a view to better understand how, as a member of the design community, we can meaningfully contribute to reconciliation, cultural awareness, collaboration, and thoughtful change. We acknowledge that our Reflect RAP is the beginning of an ongoing journey of listening, learning, understanding and accountability, focused on building meaningful relationships and deepening respect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. By adopting this plan, we aim to lay a solid, informed foundation for future reconciliation initiatives and opportunities. To deliver our Reflect RAP we have worked collaboratively with Nik&Co. Consultancy, an Aboriginal-owned consultancy and Bookabee Australia to facilitate Aboriginal Cultural Sensitivity and Respect Training for our team. S9 Team Members have also acknowledged Reconciliation Week by spending their time volunteering with our long-term social responsibility partner, Baptist Care (SA) Inc, assisting with the requirements to host their annual Reconciliation Day BBQ event held today. Our Reflect RAP provides our studio with clear and measurable pathways to realise our commitments, which we believe will provide us with the accountability needed to direct our reconciliation journey. We look forward to embarking on this meaningful and important journey as a collective studio. View our Reflect RAP here: https://lnkd.in/gj_Qx9yZ

  • Last Week Principal Nigel Howden joined industry leaders on the panel for the Property Council of Australia SA Future Leaders — Meet the Leaders event, hosted by William Buck. A great initiative focused on sharing knowledge, insights and guidance with the next generation of leaders within our industry.

Property Council SA Future Leaders - Meet the Leaders Night Thank you to the Property Council of Australia (SA) for the invitation to speak at Thursday's ’Meet the Leaders’ event, hosted by William Buck. The committee delivered an exceptionally well-attended event, bringing together representatives from across a diverse cross-section of the property industry for an evening of speed networking. As someone who would naturally place themselves toward the more introverted end of the personality spectrum, it’s fair to say that the prospect of speaking about my career and experiences to a room of unfamiliar faces for over an hour was mostly outside my usual comfort zone. That said, I genuinely found the experience both enjoyable and rewarding (I obviously can’t speak for those on the receiving end). One of the strengths of our industry has always been its collaborative nature, and the openness of the discussions around professional connections, knowledge sharing, and lived experience reflected a collective commitment to supporting and developing the next generation of leaders. If the principle of hiring the smartest people and getting out of their way holds true, then based on the quality of the questions and level of engagement throughout the evening, the future of our industry is in very capable hands. As for me - I've exhausted my annual allocation of words so I’ll now be returning to a more familiar state of quiet observation.

Motorsport venues have been designed the same way for a long time. Intensity as the default. Scale, spectacle, speed as the only language worth speaking. Australian Motorsport Park is part of a wider exploration into what a motorsport destination could be — where hospitality, landscape, and everyday life are the foundation on which the whole idea is built. Studio Nine conceived it as a private club, not a facility. Developed as part of an ongoing rethinking of mixed-use motorsport models, the concept asks a question the industry is only beginning to take seriously. When a project starts from that position, everything shifts. The architecture doesn't compete with the track, it frames it. The experience doesn't peak at the race, it builds around it. The place has a reason to exist on a Tuesday as much as a race day. For CUUB Studio, that changed how we approached every image. The light stayed cinematic and unhurried. Materials — concrete, stone, timber — shown with the weight and texture they actually carry. The atmosphere had to hold two things at once: the stillness of the place and the reason people come. The concepts being developed right now will define what motorsport culture looks like for the next generation. The most interesting ones won't just be faster or bigger. They'll be places people actually want to stay in. Design: Studio Nine Architects Creative content: CUUB Studio — creative content studio

  • A connected lifestyle community grounded in place, wellbeing and shared experience — Set within the landscape of South Australia’s renowned Clare Valley, ‘Seasons at Clare’ is a proposed retirement lifestyle village that brings together community, wellness, and regional identity in a carefully considered master planned environment. The masterplan draws on the character of the Clare Valley, embedding local identity into the design. A wine barrel-inspired entry sequence establishes a strong sense of arrival, referencing the region’s viticultural heritage while guiding residents and visitors into a communal outdoor space. This gesture reinforces the project’s broader ambition, to ground the development in its regional context while shaping a connected and community-focused way of living. Designed by S9 Project Team — Justin Cucchiarelli, Kym Wiseman, Olivier Martin, Zak Papas & Taylor Cunningham Learn more about the project: https://lnkd.in/g4ZtXHRf
