“Ultimately, this technology needs to lead to productivity and improvements in living standards, not corporate valuations.” Speaking at the AFR Banking Summit, our CEO Matt Comyn highlighted that while businesses are moving quickly to adopt AI, the bigger question is how we maximise its benefits for Australia. Leadership and long-term thinking were required to get the balance right between tapping the advantages of AI and making sure it was delivering for Australian society as a whole, he said. Australia’s strong institutions and trust give us an advantage, but maintaining that trust will be essential as AI reshapes jobs, industries and regulation. To learn more visit CommBank Newsroom.

“One in four Australian adults have experienced financial abuse or know someone who has. Escaping domestic and family violence is often just the beginning. The harder question can be: how do you rebuild a life once the crisis has passed? We know recovery takes time. Financial security and access to ongoing support can make a real difference as people rebuild their independence. I recently sat down with FW (Future Women) for Season four of There’s No Place Like Home: Paths to Healing – a podcast created in partnership with Commonwealth Bank through CommBank Next Chapter. This season explores the story that starts when survivors begin the long, often challenging, work of rebuilding. What makes this season powerful is that it focuses on lived experience and the amazing organisations working every day to support recovery. For the first time, full video episodes are available on CommBank’s YouTube and Newsroom, alongside audio on all major podcast platforms. Episode 1 is now live, with new episodes released weekly.” - Angela MacMillan, CommBank Group Customer Advocate #CommBankNextChapter #FinancialAbuse #DomesticViolenceAwarness #FutureWomen

“So many people get scammed and it affects them and their families — I want to stop that,” says Angelina Potapova, crew tech lead at CommBank. For Angelina, protecting customers from online threats is a real driving force. She works in Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM), supporting teams, tracking projects and finding smarter ways to prevent scams. “I’ve loved technology since I was five," she says. "Growing up in Russia, I was told girls played the violin, boys used computers. Moving to Australia, I started studying performance but soon realised tech was my passion.” Through CommBank’s EmpowHer program, Angelina has been mentored by Nicola Nicol, the bank’s chief security officer, support that’s helped her grow both as a leader and an advocate for women in tech. Her advice to other women considering a career in technology? “Just do it! Take opportunities as they come and trust your curiosity." For us, supporting women’s sport isn’t just about game day. It’s about backing bold ambition, creating opportunities, and showing what’s possible when talent gets the platform it deserves. Because being a great place to work isn’t just about what we build. It’s about what we back. #WAC2026

Today, CommBank has become the first Australian bank to publish a report outlining how we are adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly across the business. ‘The Commonwealth Bank: Our Approach to Adopting AI’ report shares how at CommBank we are ideating, developing, deploying and governing AI, and the safeguards in place as the technology continues to evolve. The report highlights how AI is already supporting CommBank customers and the broader community, including: 🤖 Helping protect customers from scams and fraud Using AI to detect unusual patterns across more than 20 million payments a day, helping reduce customer fraud losses by over 20% year‑on‑year and delivering tens of thousands of proactive warnings to customers daily. 🛡️ Strengthening trust through responsible AI practices Clear AI governance, robust risk management frameworks and six guiding principles on how to apply them, help us develop and use AI in a responsible way. ✨ Enhancing customer and employee experiences From more tailored banking experiences via CommBank’s Customer Engagement Engine to tools like Compass AI that is helping our frontline teams with knowledge so they are able to spend more time focused on the needs of our customers. 🎓 Building Australia’s AI capability Investing in AI skilling for employees, collaborating with universities and industry, and supporting initiatives that help Australians and small businesses grow confidence in using AI. “To realise the full potential of AI, we must work together to build capability, foster innovation and support responsible adoption. We aim to share our knowledge as we navigate this rapidly evolving landscape.” – Matt Comyn, CEO.

Since joining CommBank almost 10 years ago, Sabina’s been involved in shaping major technology transformation initiatives, including GenAI, that strengthen how teams collaborate, innovate, and deliver for customers. “I am passionate about bringing together different perspectives. I believe real progress happens when different skills and experiences come together around a shared purpose. The best solutions emerge faster when not everyone thinks the same way. As both a person and a leader in technology, Sabina is known for creating environments where people feel empowered to experiment and think differently. She leads with authenticity, champions practical innovation, and encourages teams to stretch their thinking and grow. “Learning experiences, and opportunities like the Seattle Tech Hub help foster that collaboration. Stepping away from day-to-day routines and immersing people in a three-week ‘bubble’ with innovative technology leaders like AWS can be truly transformative. People come back energised, their curiosity reignited, their assumptions challenged, and their approach to problem-solving broadened. They come back inspired to share what they’ve learned and to embed new ways of thinking and working across their teams. “It’s been incredible to have a front-row seat to the tech hub’s journey; from its inception to delivery, and now as it continues to evolve. I’m genuinely excited to see what comes next.” Sabina Streatfeild Executive Manager Innovation Ecosystems Tech Community
